A Testament to Mediocrity Topic

I've thought of myself as a good player - not great, but good.  Looking at my numbers, here's what I see.

Overall, I win 52.1% of the time, just above average.
I make the playoffs 40.8% of the time, a bit more than a statstically average 33.3%.
Once in the playoffs, I win less than half my games at 48.3%.
When I make the playoffs, I reach the World Series 26.1% of the time, almost spot-on an average of 25%.
In the World Series, I am exactly 50%.

So, I present you PINOTFAN, the poster child for Average.

does this count open league or theme leagues too?

Both, although I've rarely played OLs for a couple years now.

I would like to nominate...me myself...that it be I be the one who is chosen mostest mediocre.

Overall, I win 51.1% of my game.  Closer to average!
I make the playoffs 31.9% of the time, much closer to the average!
Once in the playoffs, I win less than half my games at 49.3%.  Again, closer to average!!!
When I make the playoffs, I reach the World Series 33.3 of the time, You get that one.
In the World Series, I am 1/5 only 20%.  Yours again.

But I'm hoping the emotional kicker is I currently have a team named "Yearning for Mediocrity."

I admire your commitment to neither success or failure Mr. Pinotfan.

I thought when you click on a players name and check out their stats (wins, losses, playoff appearance) that it is for only open leagues?

All games are counted.

Oh...PS...my Yearning for Mediocrity team is 80-81 and needs a win to finish 81-81.  Beat that Pinotfan :)

I think this would be a neat theme league idea...The 8 teams with the records closest to 81-81 make the playoffs.

hmmmm......

The best I can do is in the first season of a theme I run, I won the WS; in the second (just completed) season, I was 81-81.

Kinda like the old themes where everyone had a different target number for wins.  A problem with those leagues was the lower-target teams had an advantage (if they made the playoffs), in that they could tank tons of games and use high-performance, low appearance players.  Having everyone shoot for 81 wins would be an interesting twist.  It was your idea, but if you don't want to run with it I'll give it a shot.  If you do want to run it, consider me your first sign-up!

Something to ponder: open stadium choice or, in line with the mediocrity concept, WIS Stadium only?

NEVERMIND - I see you already posted the theme!

The perfect mediocre WIS manager would be one with more than 300 teams and an owner rating of 0.

Also, having 0 championships would cement the honor.

With an owner rating of 18,377 (today's pm round), pinotfan isn't even close...

Your owner rating doesn't start at 0, and wins gain more pts than loses lose.
11/22/2010 8:42 PM
Oh. You're making my head hurt. Not the first time you've done so. So, then what rating would be the perfect average?

We need to determine parameters.  For example, my presumption was based on 'if all teams were equal'.  Therefore, you'd win half the time; make the playoffs 1/3 the time (assuming a standard 24-team league, in which eight teams make the playoffs); advance to the WS 1/4 the time you make the playoffs; and win half your World Series appearances.
