Also, the baseball-reference.com HOF Monitor scores for both players (where 100 = likely HOFer, great than 130 = HOF cinch):

Brooks Robinson = 152
Ron Santo = 88

The HOF Monitor is meaningless.  Santo was the best 3B of the 60's.  His yearly slash averages own Brooks's as do his career slash numbers.  That monitor thing awards points for sticking around even when you're washed up like Robinson was.  Santo had numerous seasons far better than Brooks' MVP (laughable selection, btw) year of 1964.  Hell, Santo's 1964 was far better than that.

Ronnie's career slash numbers.....
.277 .362 .464 .826

Brooks's.....
.267 .322 .401 .723

Not even close.  Ronnie was the better player.

Robinson finished in the top 25 MVP voting in the AL 12 times.  Santo, only 7 times in the NL.

Robinson was a first-ballot HOFer, receiving 92% of the vote in 1983.  Santo's BBWAA eligibility expired after 15 years, peaking at only 43% of the vote.

"Not even close.  Ronnie was the better player" doesn't seem to fit the general consensus of the sportswriters.  You know, the ones who actually saw them play.

Ozzie Smith got 97% or so when he couldn't actually hit.  Don't make me laugh by invoking the almighty voters.  Santo was the better player.

OK.  I guess your argument of "Because I said so!" trumps the opinions of the BBWAA members who actually watched them both play.

Any other "Because I said so!" pearls of wisdom you care to share with us tonight?

So you're saying Brooks Robinson is badass, and it is undefinable in his stats?

I think that's what muddy is trying to say about Santo.

He posted stats.

The numbers are perfectly clear.  Santo was a better hitter than Brooks Robinson.  And while Robinson was superior defensively, Santo won 5 Gold Gloves.  The numbers themselves are at the very least near-HOF worthy.  But throw in the accounts of his determination and the years of broadcasting, and I think there's no doubt he deserves a spot in Cooperstown.

Bill James, who invented the HOF Monitor, rates Santo as the 6th best third baseman of all time, ahead of several other HOF members.

Brooks Robinson won 16 Gold Gloves and is generally considered the best defensive third baseman in MLB history.

Ron Santo was afraid of black cats.

I smell a sympathy induction into the HOF by the Veteran's Committee next time the opportunity presents itself.
Oh my.  Look at that!

Brooks Robinson was a member of the committee that voted Santo in.

Why did Santo never get more than 43% of the BBWAA vote?
