2010 Test Team Topic

In case anybody is interested in how some of the new 2010 players performed in an open league I just had a team comprised of 2010 players finish 71-91.  Pitching staff waffled between mediocre and horrible.  Rotation of Cain, Wainwright, Verlander, and Price all had ERA's around 4.50.  Price went 8-23.  Wainwright was the best, another team in same league had him in a -2/-2 park and he was 17-4 2.30 last I saw.  I played in Forbes which is all zeroes.  I was disappointed in Brian Wilson who ended with an OAV of .302.  Stauffer and Meek also mediocre with ERA's of 4.  Ramon Ramirez of the Giants was very strong but pooped out towards the end and finished with 14 saves and a 3.49 ERA.  His real life .137 OAV jumped to .236 for me.  Hitters were a little better.  Zimmerman hit .331 and a bunch finished in the .280's.  Gardner, Posey, Phillips, Guerrero, Holliday, and Huff all hit 280-290.  Posey was about .310 all year and slumped in last 20-30 games to finish at 280 with 10 homers and 58 RBI.  Hanley Ramirez hit 297 with 9 HR, 69 RBI and 37 SB's.  Batting leadoff Brett Gardner hit .281 with 16 doubles and 15 triples, only 1 HR and 57-71 in SB's.  More details you can look into my team results.

Anybody having success with any 2010 players??

I would say most of these pitchers have been in a pitcher's park like Target Field.

I have also tried Jose Bautista at Wrigley Field. I waived him after 300 AB's with a .210 BA and only 8 home runs. That kind of suprised me I was expecting better.

Sorry that didn't line up any better.

I just finished up a 2010 test team.  They were in a weak division and I luckily won it with 83 wins. Swept in first round of the playoffs, pretty much as expected. I hoped to manage the new guys to a .500 record.
Had a few surprises with my 2010 test team. Brett Gardner did well (.291/.370/.364 w/ 64 sb vs.14 cs. Pierre "cobbed" 95 bases, Infante was at .340/.369/.387.good value. My '10 Thome/Twins version isn't rated as a fielder. I put him in at 1b. He started 80 games, made 16 errors for a .976 f.pct. Only made 11 - plays. He hit 11 Hrs, .294/.433/.483 line playing home games at Dodger.  King Felix, was consistently good. 268 IP, 209 hits, 21 homers off, 221Ks, .213 OAV, 1.12 WHIP, and 2.85 ERA. Was 22-10 on an 83 win team. Kershaw started slow, but ended up well. I'd use him again.  Kershaw pitched 231 innings with a .236 OAV, 1.30 WHIP (3.86 b/9) and a 3.58 ERA.   Had a losing record of 11-16.   Halladay way underperformed in total, and rarely pitched well.

My Brian Wilson was my primary closer, ended up with a 4.14 ERA, 72 IP in 69 games, .287 OAV, 1.67 WHIP (yuck) reflecting his 4.9 BB/9.  Did fan 9.92 per nine, had 20 saves in 27 SVOs, and gave up no homers.

Redwingscup - I don't know why I expected a little better from Wilson.  Looks like you had trouble with his control, but mine got pounded with 74 hits in 58 innings, only 21 walks and 2 hr's.  Your Strasburg did pretty good, and Ramon Ramirez was also way better than mine with a .157 OAV and 1.45 ERA.  Pierre swapping 95 bags was pretty impressive considering his .255 BA and .311 OBP.  My Aubrey Huff did really well at 1B and I'm using him again in a Theme Giants/Orioles team coming up.

cbaltz, I was like you; expected a bit more out of Wilson. Knowing I had to use up the IPs paid for, I slotted him all season long as Closer A (he only fatigued a few times when I was able to put in the rested Ramon Ramirez). Wilson was set for 8th inning with a 15/20 pitch count. I didn't follow it closely enough to see if he suffered any in game fatigue issues, but with a RL Ip of 1.07, he should have been good for 20 pitches. Both he and Ramirez were wild, but like you point out, my Ramirez ended up with a .157 OAV and 1.03 WHIP. Ramirez's RL OAV of .137 is #7 in all of SIM for pitchers with under 4 bb/9.

Thanks for the heads up on Huff. He was originally going to be on my 2010 test team (I'm a big Giants fan), but was intrigued by Thome's partial Twins season so put him in there. I'll try out Huff sonner than later.
