Mark McGwire-Round 1 Pick in 1968/98? Topic

In a 1968 Progressive, with 8 Teams, would Mark McGwire 1998 be worth a Round 1 Pick in 1968?

Mark McGwire 1998/68
PA 681   Averg. .299 HR's 70

Mark McGwire 1999/69
PA 666   Averg. .278 HR's 65

Mark McGwire 2000/1970
PA  321   Averg.  .305 HR's 32

Thanks

is this an established progressive or a new league? if you're only comparing him to players who are rookies in 68 (and maybe 98?) then he could be a low first rounder. or even higher if he's that one missing piece to an already awesome team.

but in an 8-team league there should be plenty of solid 1Bs out there even in the late rounds. so i am not sure i would do it if it was me.

Unless he is the final piece for your playoff puzzle (and you play in a HR park) I would say no.

Trentonjoe-I do see McGwire as more of the "final piece" in 69 than 68, but he does play in Candlestick Park, which is not exactly a Home Run Heaven.

looking at the rookies (first year in WIS) in '68... doesn't look like a great draft.

guys I would definitely take over Big Mac:
Nolan Ryan
Andy Messersmith
Graig Nettles
Bobby Bonds
Jerry Koosman

debatable:
Tom Hall
Dock Ellis
Joe Rudi
Hal McRae
Roger Nelson

You only get so many opportunities to win it all.   If McGwire is going to give you a realistic chance to win. Take it!
