Yeah. I would bet DII and DIII in most worlds are pretty barren. But there weren't a ton there before the update either.
I have wondered for some time if part of the problem with attracting and keeping the more casual fan - even without the issues the game currently has - is that most people are put off by having to fight their way through DIII and DII to get close to a team they've even heard of.
I'm sure that is a problem for some, but I don't think being able to move up very easily and fast would be good either. Newbies getting crushed by a lot of veterans at D1-A would probably cause them to quit pretty quickly also.
True, but I was thinking more about the problems of attracting them in the first place.
I'm sure that's true for some, but I actually joined this game to play DIII in the first place, so there is a real draw to that. Not everyone went to D1 schools. If I had arrived to play DIII and it had been abandoned because all the other newbies were playing in D1 I would have quit pretty quickly. Plus the chances of actually getting the team you want to play as (which would be the Ohio States, Michigans, Floridas, etc. of the world) is exceptionally slim and I'm not sure it is that much more fun for an Ohio State fan to play as San Jose St. than it is to play as Menlo College.

fwiw , right now in dobie
D3 LOST 42 COACHES
D2  LOST 10
D1A LOST  5
D1  LOST 3
I am assuming this means your higher classification coaches probably are still playing on reward points.
so that is why there is less attrition, of course this may also mean that these d1-2 coaches arent even participating.
this is only my 3rd season, so i may be wrong in this .

You piqued my curiosity...

DI-A = 65 openings
DI-AA = 88 openings
DII = 109 openings
DIII = 154 openings

Giving us a total of 416 openings (currently) in Dobie.

Leaving us only 196 coaches in the world.

DI-A =  55 coaches
DI-AA =  32 coaches
DII =  35 coaches
DIII =  74 coaches

Wow.

I agree, part of the appeal of GD to me was the fact it had DIII/DII teams.  Too bad you can't afford to play there only since the reward points dwindle so fast.

Even more so now. Someone who has a "dynasty" in DIII in Hayes this season (more than 7 playoff appearances for the definition of dynasty) and wins the NC will receive 484 reward points. If you have a dynasty and make it to the NC game and lose, you will receive 346 reward points. Well worth playing...

Looks like Yost will be underwater this season.  Currently at only 286.

How many bowl games are there?  Looks like it would be difficult to miss one with this number.

By the way, Nelson, I just looked at your favorite/blocked numbers (how does that happen?).
Let's just say I'm no longer bummed that 9 people have blocked me ...

2/15/2011 6:50 PM
DI-AA =  32 coaches:

Another reason why Sim AI is so good at D1AA.

The #1 reason is a bad engine.

PS - how do you look at someones favorite / blocked #'s?

If someone posts enough over the course of one day, they'll be listed under the user tab (most posts).  Also, there's a top 20 of the most favorited.

I assume you counted the opening to get your numbers, but according to the Dobie signup page there are 256 coaches in the world. Which is still a lousy small number.

The world pop number on the sign up page does not update until the world rolls over and it enters new coach sign up.
