Modern day pitchers Topic

Just out of curiosity has anyone won an OL World Series, or been in contention to win, with only a rotation of post 1940 pitchers? I did it twice before the '09 update but haven't really come close since. It seems strange that these leagues are so dominated by dead ballers. Is it the problem of giving up just too many HR's or something else. Any ideas....

Not a WS, but contended well. I put an OL team together right after the 2010 players/parks were released. team made the playoff with 98 wins, but flamed out in first round. I had the team in Target using modern day pitchers for my starting staff - figuring (not all that correctly) that the -4 HR would greatly suppress Hrs. Anyhow, as best I can recall, my staff had the 2010 King Felix, the 242 IP Carpenter, the '76 Fidrych, and the '05 Pedro. They still gave up homers, but all in all a good experience.

Sure, a team that just wrapped up had 97 Maddux, 03 Schmidt, 02 Lowe, 02 Pedro with fill-ins.  Neutral park.  Lost in the WS.  You can do it.

One of my favorite teams was called Fangled and Timey.  All modern pitchers (most 1990-present) and all ancient position players.  The theory was that the pitchers would help out the defense a little bit, and my old lineup would bring down the opposing D, especially when batting against deadballers.  Worked out well, made the playoffs.  I don't remember what happened after that.  Didn't win the WS.  I have no idea to what degree the era/defense experiment worked or failed.

I'm running a version of the team llamanuts is describing in the 90mil open league in round 2 of the WIS championship, for the exact reasons he describes. I probably won't get a chance to study it in depth, but my unscientific observation is that my opponents are NOT making a disproportionate number of errors on defense. Unfortunately, reached on error isn't a stat that WIS tracks.

Then again, what would be a significant increase in error rate over a whole season? 20 more errors against me? That's only 1 every 8 games.

(My last 5 games, my opponents have made 3, 1, 0, 2, 0 errors).

Here's my lineup:

It's hard for me to see the name "Glasscock" and not giggle.

Good. I thought it was just me.

I feel the same way about Rusty Kuntz.

I'm pretty sure I was the first person who used the '86 Glasscock. Its not something I'm proud of.

Maybe it's me, but what is wrong with a glasscock and a rusty kuntz???  Seems like a perfect fit..no? Pete Lacock was always my personal favorite....And booger don't be coy you are proud of it...I know this fits into my question about modern day pitchers, I just haven't figured it out yet... I'll contemplate more.
