Let's play guess my profession!

My coworkers and I are frequently described as:

Lazy
Greedy
Not in touch with reality

Wisconsin Democratic State Senator ?
Clever. My first guess was Tea Party chairman in Jersey.
Closer to the former....I am a member of one of the most reviled occupations of the world....public school teacher.

I had a waitress tell me last summer, that I should be ashamed of myself every time I cash my pay check.

I also had a guy who owns a 7,000 square feet house tell me he was embarrassed for me and that the greedy teacher union was worse than the stock market traders he works with.

Yup.  We teachers definitely get into the profession for the money and because we don't want to do work.  I guess the downside is we get to be criticized by people who wouldn't last a half hour in a classroom.

Graduate student.  I get to teach for less money than the teachers.  Right now I'm not teaching, though.  Instead, this week I get to work 4 PM to 4 AM everyday at a soft x-ray beam at a synchrotron to help us get 24 hour use of our light.  Of course, I still have to make it to 9:30 class...

"Synchrotron"?? I think that is a made-up word and I challenge it ! I am a semi-professional Scrabble player, so don't be trying that stuff here:)

It's a particle accelerator, I believe (I have a nephew who works at JPL).

Good to see there's another competitive Scrabble player here, but feel free to challenge synchrotron against me anytime.  It's legal.

I hope you told 'em both what they could do with their opinions TJ.  Yours is one of the noblest, most valuable, and least appreciated professions in the country.
Well said.
