How to hit Greg Maddux? Topic

I have no success hitting Greg Maddux? Does anyone have any tips to hit this guy? I try lefty HR hitters but that doesnt work either. Any help would be great!

This is something you should not waste time trying to figure out. When you face him hope for the best, or you can draft him and watch him dominate your opponents.

The formula isn't that different from Addie Joss, except that your chances of reaching on an error are a lot lower.

I assume you mean Maddux95 or Maddux94 which also makes hitting a HR tough. But in general it's easier to take him deep than Joss.

You want lefty hitters who hit for AVG. They won't get many walks. They won't get a lot of HRs. If they have speed they will get some triples. So get guys with speed and contact so that you can move your runners around when you do get someone on.

So if you can't get Babe Ruth, then get Kenny Lofton.

You can't hit him. This is like asking how do you stop tip o'neill, ty cobbs, or babe ruth in the sim. Even with top tier pitchers, these guys will still hit near .400 with .500 obp. Just throw out ur best lineup and hope for the best.

i tried lefties with average but no help but it may work along with speed. I like the idea of speed, I may try to bump up aggressiveness on speed (regardless of catcher) and hope for some hits and stolen bases, then maybe a hit here or there.  I'll try taking the gamble, I'll let you know how it turns out, you do the same.

The point is I think, why would you build your entire team around the notion of dealing with one or two scary pitchers? Granted we see a lot of Maddux and Joss, but I don't see obsessing about them to the exclusion of just trying to build a solid team.

One could argue that if you can hit them properly you can hit pretty much any pitcher well enough to win, assuming you don't completely toss your own pitching to the winds in doing so.

Some ability to hit a homerun and to play small-ball helps but really there is no magic bullet to stop a pitcher so you shouldn't worry about it.  What you should worry about is creating runs on offense and preventing runs on defense and pitching more efficiently than your opponent.

Forget it. WIS thinks he is God! Along with Ruth, Joss and a few others. If you don't have 'em, you suck!

I was on something and chose AFC  (Im actually .500 away and 2 games over at home)  Also the only reason why 98 Maddux is #2 right now is because after 2 with an ok team I have 2 with the best team in the league and wanted to make sure I get to throw the 95 at him.

Kind of high era's for Greg and Dennis.. the offenses must be pretty good.
3/3/2011 1:53 PM
AFC will do that.

The best way to defeat Maddux is to have your own Maddux pitching in the same game, someone will win 1-0.

Q:  What's the best way to hit Greg Maddux?

A.  All lefty lineup, taking the matchup advantage
B. High HR/9, maximizing what few hits you do get
C. Upside the head

C. Upside the head

Wow, it took 14 posts (second time through the order if your brain is baseball-wired) for someone to go with the hit joke. Color me impressed.
As for answers, my only new thing to add would be this:
Based on my limited understanding of the somewhat recent fielding update, the year of the player influences fielding circumstances. So if you went with only 19th century hitters, you'd theoretically up the number of errors made by the other team. So left-handed, high average, old dudes?
