Help Me "Support Low Cap Leagues" Topic

There seems to be a pretty consistent cry for supporting low cap leagues. I would like to. I have even tried building pretend rosters together. The problem? I always end up hating the team. I have usually played between 80-160 focussing mostly on 100-120. I think the problem is that I have no frame of reference for what will happen in a low cap league, even though it is supposed to be the most realistic.

I know what you're thinking, I could just suck it up, build a team and find out. But, I don't want to completely waste 12.95.

So, what I am asking is for just like 2 examples of hitters and 2 examples of pitchers who are decent at low caps that might not be playable at 80 or 100. I don't want you to build my team. Hell, I don't even need you to tell me why they perform at lower caps but not higher. I can figure that all out on my own. I just need a starting point.

just do the math. $60M split between pitching and hitting, you'd look for the best hitters you can find for around $4m, sometimes less. you might find better value at some positions by drafting part timers with a combined salary under $4M. pitchers are the best you can find for an average of less than $2.5M per 100ip, your best pitchers can be a little more but you don't want to be too unbalanced here. don't skimp much on stamina. if there's AAA available you can draft significantly better players with less stamina.

'95 Boggs is always popular at $60m. He'll make a lot of minus plays but you''re less hesitant to make sacrifices in order to get some hitting.
'99 Castillo is a typical 2b, sacrificing some glove for speed.
'75 Carter is a cookie C in the right price range.
when using part-time OF I always seem to end up with '05 Conine. he's not much, just a generic .300 hitter.
some prototypical pitchers are '06 Maddux, 25 Fitzsimmons, '50 Hutchinson.

Spend 60 on offense and 0 on pitching.

Just to give you an idea of what a team might look like, this is my team from the WIS championships... we had to have 2 hitters that cost 15mil combined (Pujols/Manny) so your hitters might be a little more balanced than mine.

CF Lofton 698pa C/B 277/365/389
1B Pujols 700pa B-/A+ 329/442/646
RF Manny 679pa B-/D- 322/425/564
LF Quentin 527pa D/D+ 244/343/466
3B DeRosa 576pa B+/D 252/318/419
SS Lowrie 306pa A+/D- 255/335/381 and Espinoza 350pa B/A- 233/252/285
C Matheny 424pa A/A+/A+ 218/276/286 and Molina 151pa B+/B/D+ 267/327/336
2B Baerga 544pa C/B 247/283/350

DeRosa actually outhomered Manny, as did Quentin.

Nagy posted a 3.80 ERA and Mulder was at 3.67, Hill (4.37) and Westbrook (4.41) were a bit less effective.

Don't forget that you can stretch your IPs more. Without really going below 100% for their starts, the 4 combined for 930 IP (RL total 819) and probably could have done more if I pushed them harder.

I've had great luck with '86 Willie Randolph at leadoff and '96 Tim Belcher as a top tier SP if you're going 4 man roto...tandem rotations with 2 guys around 115 IP for around $2 -$2.5 million (ala '02 Highball Wilson) have also worked for me.

Thanks for all the info, everyone. I have been playing around in the draft center for a while and it seems to me that if you ever want to score you have to almost completely ignore defense
