Ichiro's 3000th Hit - 142 to go! First Ballot HOF! Topic

2,742 Hits
55th All Time

2013-  Had 136 hits with a .262/.297/.342 batting line. Two more seasons of 500+ AB gets him there, but whatever team he is on will minimize that amount if they can help it.

Mediocre average, no ability to get on base, and the slg% of a fire fly.  He will get to 3000 hits, but it's sad in a way....he will stick around and be a crappy player to do it.  Some guys should just ride off in the sunset with head held high.

24th man on the roster/ 5th OF role this season. Will get about 1-2 starts a week so it'll be tough to get 100 hits this season unless injuries hit.

He does lead the team in hits and runs scored through 5 games in. Says he has no intentions of retiring after this season.

Leading the Yankees in BA and OBP (albeit not enough PA to qualify). With Raul Ibanez cut for the Angels the other day, on the injured Jason Giambi is older among position players.

2,786 career hits. He's passed Luke Appling, Andre Dawson, and Ken Griffey Jr among others in hits. 49th on the All Time list.

Ichiro IS a HOF caliber player

How do you figure?  Career 111 OPS+ as a corner outfielder is barely above average.  That's HOF for you?  Even with his base stealing and his defense, I just can't see it.  I think he'll go in, but he doesn't deserve it.  So I would say he's a likely HOFer.  But by no means HOF caliber.

He wouldn't be the worst choice in the world but I wouldn't put him in. To me, he falls into the Dwight Evans, Bobby Abreu, Gary Sheffield tier. An argument could be made but it's a stretch.

Hall of FAME.  Discussed many, many times but it's more than "career OPS".   If that's how it was determined, we'd just whip out our stat sheets and say "Yep, HOF" or "Nope, career OPS too low."

For lack of a better way to put it, Ichiro is like some of the Negro Leaguers who are in the HOF.   He was the first Asian position player to make an impact in MLB.  And he actually played very well in MLB.   He's in HOF and it's deserved.

Right now, his 162g avg production is .318/.361/.413, 212 hits a season, 97 runs, 36/44 sb.

10 Gold gloves.  3 Silved Sluggers.  So, in his era, he was considered pretty damn good.

His "black ink - times leading league",  "grey ink - top ten in league leaders", "hall of fame monitor", all Bill James goofy formula type stats, all rate really well too.

He'll get the 1st ballot nod.

Ichiro is hitting .304/.353/.348 as a 4th outfielder for the Marlins. He's played in every game and is now the main starter in LF due to injury. If he can rack up 100 hits this season he'd only need 56 hits next season to get to 3,000.

At this rate, he'll get to 3000 before Jeter

Oopsie!

Jeter:  3.465 hits
Ichiro:  2,935 hits
