Ichiro's 3000th Hit - 142 to go! First Ballot HOF! Topic

OBP is obviously of value, but you have to put it into context.  Frank Thomas OBP of .430 is far less valuable than Rickey Henderson OBP of .430.  I feel like raw SLG% is not like that.  If a guy has a .500 SLG%, fast or fat and slow, he is still getting those bases, so his value is the same.  If I had to choose one stat over the other, my choice would be slugging.

A truly GREAT offensive player has a good number in both categories, so (overall) Rickey sorta wins that over Mattingly throughout their careers  Rickey walked AND hit for power, whereas Mattingly did not draw many walks.

Career wise, Mattingly actually has a .830 to .820 advantage over Henderson in this category, but his is heavily weighted on Slugging.  Rickey was pretty high in both categories throughout his career.

again. since the universe must once again be tortured by your translation skills, whether with numbers, or words. i could feel sorry for the rickshaw who takes u on these inter-stellar solar-system galaxy voyages, but, i wont. nope.

will be the gentleman here, and be the first to offer a typed translation.

"He's asking about Abner, & Doubleday. He also kindly and respectfully asks that you expound on those two, in another new thread, so that we may return control of the thread, back to the honorable Ichiro Suzuki. Looks like that last word translates as <pHuk-U-vErY-mUcH>, but wait it could mean maybe something, just wait".

so, let me get this straight. brett is 1st, which is the new 3rd? and boggs is the old 2nd, which is now the new 4th? um, well, maybe, but can u help and put that on a conversion table? meanwhile i found the 2013 revised translation of that japanese question, so we may not have time to find out what happens to number 5, under the dull knife of bad_luck. its from a pretty neat web-page that also helps translate Hispanish and Latincio, as well.

anyways, turns out the question is an abbreviated japanese version of "WTF ?"

You're right, and all 28 AL MVP voters in 1985 were wrong.  Every single one of them.

Got it.
Just 23. It would have been reasonable to vote for Brett.
Sure thing Biz
Not sure what you're so upset about.

truly, i do not want to alarm u, but simple math, where u take the first three words in this guys post, and perform some magic that makes all the other words disappear, then u will have only three words left.

ichiro gets hijacked.

yes alarming. no one has called 9-1-1 for help. no word of a ransom demand yet. was he on a plane when that happened? his escalade, the one on TV? we wait for news, any word at all. a hit machine forsaken. just alarming.

maybe its your eyes. that can probably be taken care of in about an hour at a place called, "LensCrafters", or the WalMart Opti-METRICs department. can i make an appointment for u?

am so glad there are other doctors in this thread. a nice cyber pillow. soothing. nice bedside manner.

not sure how labotomy therapy is supposed to progress, or how many have been performed since childhood. but, i do think the last one must have been a doooozy. how long before a pill for that is expected to hit market? well, maybe u can let us know in metrics, or FRAA. or by wristwatch. just let us know when?.

amen.

Perhaps somebody should tell Brandon Phillips that 1 point of OBP is worth 2 points of SLG.

I'm not upset, it's just a really biz like thing to think without a doubt that everyone else is wrong, even when there's lots of them that think differently than you, and some of your posts are coming off quite arrogant.....hence the:

Sure thing Biz
Based on each players' performance, do you really think the Mattingly was the best player in the AL in 85?

I just don't see it. If you want to pick a corner infielder with power, Brett is the choice. If you're looking for the combined value of offense, defense, and base running, it's Henderson. There really isn't an argument for Mattingly.
