Question: what does baseline prestige mean?
Answer: it's the starting point, and generally the resting point of a team, when it isn't being taken to new heights or run into the ground. The higher the baseline prestige, the easier it is to maintain a high prestige.
Follow-up question: what use is that in 3.0, hasn't prestige been neutralized?
Answer: no. The answer is no. Prestige has not been neutralized in 3.0.
No one disputes that having a high prestige doesn't have all the advantages it used to have. Losing a degree of advantage can feel like a disadvantage, but that's because of perspective, not because of reality. Prestige is still important. It's still much better to have a high prestige, and therefore a high baseline prestige is still an advantage. But it's not the ballgame. It used to be prestige+scholarships+distance. That was the recruiting ballgame. All three are still part of the equation, but now there are also other factors.
