Well I got a new team that is kicking butt in the 10 game sim league but IDK how they can fair in the full 82 game season one. Really run a 8-9 man rotation with my 9 guys all playing in no less then 71 games.  6 guys rated from 80-99 defense. It seems to be working out well in the 10 game sim league as my go to guy in 97-98 Jordan is scoring a bunch of points and my other key scorers in 78-79 Parish, 92-93 Horace Grant, 93-94 Mookie Blaylock, and 90-91 Kiki are averaging 16.2-17.4ppg.  Kiki is my 6th man behind 06-07 Bruce Bowen.  Joined on the bench with 91-92 Bol and 79-80 Geoff Huston.  My 9th guy who is a throw in is 88-89 Ronnie Grandison. Other 3 are power forwards who played in 39-50 games.

Just wondering how this team would be? What do you think? Of course I would like better than Bob Gross - but I need to keep under the $42m cap. I have a core of 7 players  totaling 15,034 minutes at $40,337,818. So I don't have a lot of money left.

So my intent was to have Wilt as third option mostly (until Kukoc comes in) while keeping Usage above 100% and keeping all the other categories high enough including the core bench coming in. And with the exception of Allen and Gross (both not the bad with fouls not bad at all)- very few fouls committed yet overall defense is pretty good. What do you think and what improvements do you think can be done for a $42m league?

An easy path is just scrap this team and put 12-13 LBJ at the pf and 88-89 Magic at the sf - then get some passing/efficient guards and a decent passing center. I'm trying for something less obvious here.

Man. Running a starting team with 16,600ish minutes, and the SIM gave me rookies with under 2300 minutes combined. Advice?

You should be fine just have to consistently rotate resting between rookies and low min players, and may have to play some guys out of primary positions at times. Biggest thing is to avoid spacing on a bunch of games and ending up with injuries. You can also play high min starters a couple above recommended to offset rookie minutes here and there, I always keep them above 90% early and then let it even out over the course of the season. It's pretty common to get the shaft on rookie minutes or positions and it just means you have to be constantly on top of lineups. Worst case scenario you can hit the waiver wire for more minutes but that pretty much guarantees a bad season.

Seems the pros like EFg above everything else. Why is that when a 5 % is not a huge differance over a season. Example I can use assists on one of my teams. Gut Rodgers a 10+ assist guy with an under 40% EFg would he be useful to me as a backup. Teams with a 8 assist starter of a hindrance because of his EFg. Starter gets 30 + minutes Rodgers 10-15. Thanks

It's about giving yourself the best chance to get the highest die roll.

We're basically playing craps with modified dice.

These open league tips are based on the sim engine and salary structure as of September 2014.
These are only suggestions, you can build a successful team without following all of these guidelines.

Draft 9 players that total at least $41M and no more than 17,000 minutes.
When the league starts, send the other 3 players to the inactive list and replace them with the computer generated rookies.
The rookies can be identified by using their position effectiveness, per%/mid%/pnt%, ppg/rpg/apg.
As much as possible, draft players that are 100% effective at multiple positions and have a midrange% less than 45.
Make sure you have 2 players on the court at all times with a usage% of at least 22.1% and an eFG% of at least 48% (or 1 player with a usage% of at least 32.5% and an eFG% of at least 48%).
Your starters should total at least: 50% ast, 30% oReb, 70% dReb, 90% usage, 200 3PM, and at least 3 starters should have a defensive rating of at least 70.
Try to avoid drafting players who are foul prone or have an eFG% less than 45%.
Generally, I'd recommend running an uptempo offense and a half court defense.
You can find some good values with partial season players.
Usually, the mop up lineup will be the 5 players with the lowest amount of target minutes.

Also, you may see some people on the forums complaining about the sim being a complete crap shoot or that defense doesn't matter.  Neither of these are true.

Just a quick question in reference to rookies: What is the usage % for a rookie who has an offensive rating of , say , 4 compared to a rookie who is rated 1 or 2 on offense ?

rookies are based off of actual player seasons which you can suss out by using shot distribution ranges cross referenced by position availability in player searches (height and weight can also help w the ID once you have done the search)

Wish I would have read this before my first league. Had no idea on the minute issue when rookies are allowed. WIS steers you in the wrong direction by suggesting 4,000 minutes per position.

Great info. here tho.
