My bad

Am putting together a team but very confused withthe OP's recommendations. Can anyone help?

1--- If salary cap is $42m for Open and it's recommended to not have more than 17,000 minutes plus only have 9 players for $14m. then wouldn't that mean there would only be anywhere from $600K to just under $1m availale while the team  still needs 2,680 minutes? The sim can porvide 2,680 minutes for rookies or "low value players?"

2--- There is recommendation not to have palyers with mid% of 45% or more. So a guy like McHale and many other pf's that have mid-range game aren't valued in these games?

3--- OP identifies many advanced stats to have your team's starters meet the criteria. Is it just as important to have your bench able ot maintain the stats such as assist%, oreb%, Dereb% as well?

4--- Relates to number 3. In terms of strategy - if you have a supreme player such as Magic-80-81 but he doesn't have many minutes that season, do you start the Magic nayway (he's best on the team) because he is the best anyway?  Or does the sim value that becuase a player like 80-81 Magic has so few minutes it is better to have him off the bench- and as other starters go to bench - you have Magic able to maintain the criteria of advanced stats recommended by the OP?

5--- For one team I have Ray Allen - he's my top scorer. Let's say my opposing team has Ibaka 11-12 in which my opponent can put him at sf with his 100% Defense and he has his shooting guard that is a big scorer like Ray. As a coach I have a decision to make, Have Ray stay away from the 100% defender and go head-to-head with the other scorer or live with Ibaka's defense vs Ray. What is the general rule here if there is one? I think it would be "don't fear the 100% defender." I've played sims and it doesn't seem like a huge impact though I haven't gone head-to-head with anyone. Just wondering how much that defense is impacting the offense.

6--- Are any open games or theme games available for week nights east coast time? Or on weekends or are all of them played during the day?

I've lost this post a couple fo times trying to paste from word. I got two teams-  was wondering what any of you think of them? It will be on next post. What are your thoughts on the two teams? I only included nine palyers if I understood the OP coreectly. Thank you!

Here are the two teams:

I can't get the paste from Word to work:

Pg's Drexler 96-97 (USage 23.5, EFG% 50.8, minutes 2271)
Magic 80-81 (Usage 24.3, EFG% 53.4, minutes 1371) ,
Paul Thompson 95-96 just a few minutes. Sharpshooter.

Wings Ray Allen 05-06. (Usage 27.6, EFG% 54.4 minutes 3022)
Eddie Jones 97-98  (Usage 19.5, EFG% 55.5, minutes 2910)
***These two can interchange sg and sf.***

Frontcourt
Bailey Howell 60-61 (USage 22.2, EFG 48.1, minutes 3065)
Bill Russell 61-62 (USage 16.5, EFG% 45.7, minutes 3519)
Cole ALdrich 11-12 - just a few minutes he has near 50% if not over mid% but low usage and just3 minutes per game tpe of palyer.
***These three  can interchange at pf and center.

PF only Mario Bennett 97-98. Cna only play babout four minutes or les on average.
-------------
2nd team. Won't get into as much detail but provide value whcih payrolis $41,361.972. Minutes are 16,944.

Pgs and sgs:
Steph Curry 13-14, Manu Ginobili 05-06 and Jerry West 67-68. Cna interchange with these 3 guards at either pg or sg. Also Nate Robinson pg only for 09-10.

For sf's and powerforwards:
Chales Barkley 90-91, Ibaka 11-12, and Tracy McGrady 97-98. Can interchange at these positions.

For centers
Dale Davis 93-94 and Sharone Wright 95-96

It says $41M, not $14M. Generally, u don't want Ray Allen playing SF.

Both teams I selected are over $41m with just nine players. So how can you get 2,680 minutes with only 3 players and $600,000 to $1million left?

I know as for Ray Allen genrally I don't want him at sf but say someone had Dwayne Wade as the sg and Ibaka as the sf, wouldn't I want Ray Allen's poor defense to go against Ibaka?

while you're right conceptually about defensive assignments you don't want Allen or Jones playing SF because neither rebounds the position sufficiently well

and you don't get 2600 minutes in that last 3 drafted players you get 3 $239k scrubs who you will send to the IR swapping them out with the rookies that are randomly assigned to you - the rookies are made up names but their stat tables are based on actual player seasons (worth about $5m combined) and they can usually make up the 2000-3000 minutes you don't draft

there's lots of info already in these forums, happy reading

thanks nc and thanks felonius. Just wondering though with 1st team I've got Russell - he'd be terrfic rebounding in $42m  open and I thoguth with Darenll being a very good rebounder for pg it would offset myweak rebounding at the sf postion. Wouldn't it? I have power center rebounder and a strong pg rebounder. Then when Magic comes in I have a supreme rebounding pg. Maybe even start Magic.

Any thoughts on the 2nd team? The Barkley team?

Again, weak rebounding on the second squad. The Barkley and the Ibaka you chose (well, really any Ibaka) profile more as SF in the sim, and TMac is a wing. So you have decent rebounding at 1-2, ideal @ 3, and subpar in post.

On the 2nd team, id say to keep curry, either ginobili or west, barkley, ibaka, davis and replace the others.

Well my new open team I think is pretty solid defensively with 10 guys rated from 70-90 defensively.  My leading scorer though is only averaging 19.3ppg as I am having a hard trying to find a 25+ppg guy with solid defense for a reasonable price.

Say you are able to put together a starting 5 that is about 35 mil with the other 7 mil or so going to the bench.

How well would that work out?

They could work out fine if the correct player-seasons are selected.

I got 89-90 Bird, 97-98 Jordan, 90-91 Magic, 78-79 Parish, and 01-02 Brian Grant starting.  8 players shooting 44.2 to 52.9% from the field.  That's in the 10 game league.  Just trying some test teams for the next time I decide to do the full 82 game season.
