Snowball Shootout Topic

Ladies and Gentlemen, we present the first season of the Snowball Shootout, a tournament that pits Wooden D3's four best conferences against each other: Midwest, Michigan, Minnesota, and Upstate.

There has been plenty of trash talking and chest beating among members of aforementioned conferences. But, this the argument for which conference deserves the throne cannot be settled with mere words. It must be settled on the basketball court.

The format for the Snowball Shootout is simple. Two conferences face each other in the championship match, while the other two conferences play in the consolation match. The conferences with the most wins in each match will face each other the following season in the Championship Match, while the remaining two conferences play in the consolation match. The winner of each season's championship match has the right to proclaim themselves the best D3 conference in Wooden...for one season at least.

So without further adieu, here is the schedule for the Snowball Shootout, 1st season:

10 games?  wtf happens when there's a tie?
9/28/2011 3:39 AM
Haha yeah I just realized that last night. Pretty ridiculous oversight...but it looks like we were lucky and didn't run into a tie this year. Next season we'll have to do either 9 or 11 games.

Congrats (or should I say, BOO!) to Upstate and Michigan. Thanks to all who participated!

So, in season 2, Upstate will face Michigan in the Championship match, and Minnesota will face Midwest in the Consolation. I will be getting married in the next few days, so xulapaul has graciously offered to take over scheduling for season 2.

What we probably should figure out first, is whether to change the number of games to an odd number in case of a tie. What do you all think?

We can do an odd number of games or have a tie breaker like total point differential or total points or something of that nature.  I'm okay with whatever but I say let whoever wants to participate do it and have tie breakers if it is tied.

i agree with jstrat (which is very hard for me to do).

I'm taking over the scheduling duties for pep while he is preparing for his wedding.  Let's go with a 9 game format for next season, to avoid the need for a tiebreaker.  Conferences should initiate the selection process for their top 9 squads now, and please post the results here by Sunday evening at 5:00 CDT.  I'll get the schedule up shortly thereafter.

For the midwest/Minn IAC games, there are a few conflicts.   Ripon & St. Thomas already play in week 3 and St. John's & DePauw are scheduled in week 10 and two other Minn coaches accidentally scheduled week 10 games.   The St. John's/Depauw game is included in my suggestion, but not in the alternate (the week 3 game could be used as well, but it seems a bit early).  These are only suggestions.

Suggested schedule:
Week 8:
Hamline v. St. Norbert
Gustavus Adolphus v. Ripon

Week 10:
Macalester v. Beloit
St. Mary’s (MN) v. Lake Forest
St. Scholastica v. Carroll
St. Olaf v. Monmouth
St. Thomas v. Rose-Hulman Tech.
Concordia, Moorhead v. Lawrence or Illinois
St. John’s at DePauw (already scheduled)

Alternate schedule:
Week 8:
Hamline v. St. Norbert
Gustavus Adolphus v. Ripon

Week 9:
St. John’s v. Lawrence

Week 10:
Macalester v. Beloit
St. Mary’s (MN) v. Lake Forest
St. Scholastica v. Carroll
St. Olaf v. Monmouth
St. Thomas v. Rose-Hulman Tech.
Illinois v. Concordia, Moorhead
