Sveum has been getting praised for stressing the little things and actually teaching.  Glory, that's nice to hear.

If you're teaching BL ballplayers the basics, your minor league system is a failure.

Under the Tribune, it pretty much was a failure.  Theo & Co. are basically starting from scratch.  It is a system filled with potential in the lower levels but devoid of any major impact players at the upper levels.  So it is going to take a couple seasons before the lower level guys either start producing at the ML level or their value is high enough to be included in trades for established ML players.

Yep.  The problem the Cubs have had isn't getting the talent, it's been developing it.  Corey Patterson is a prime example.  There was nothing that kid couldn't do on a baseball field, yet they couldn't fully bring it out of him.  Now, that's THE aim of the system....development.  I love it.

The Cubs aren't good now, but in a few years, all other teams will fear us, I hope.

Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein crossed Ryne Sandberg off the list of potential Cubs managers as soon as the search for Mike Quade's replacement began.

In his statement announcing that Quade wouldn't return next year, Epstein laid out criteria for the next manager. And one qualification excluded Sandberg, who was a Cubs Hall of Fame second baseman and highly successful manager in the minor leagues.

"The next manager must have leadership and communication skills; he must place an emphasis on preparation and accountability; he must establish high standards and a winning culture; he must have integrity and an open mind; and he must have managerial or coaching experience at the major league level," Epstein said in the release.

By all accounts, Sandberg possesses all of those qualities, except the last one.

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported that Epstein reached out to Sandberg to tell him he's not in their plans.

And because of Theo not wanting to give him the Cubs job, HOFer Ryne Sandberg is reduced to this:

Oh, and how's that Sveum hiring working out?

I'm guessing the Cubs suck because of a lack of baseball talent more than Ryan Sanberg not being the manager.

He's the manager of the Phillies AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.  The uni is from their recent "Christmas in July" promotion night.

I know that, retard.   But it's more fun to pretend that the Cubs hero is destitute.

Dumbass.

Sveum has been excellent and the smart fans are loving what TheoCo has been doing.  It's been a rough watch at times, but Castro and Rizzo are worth the watch.
