After watching ESPN's "Catching Hell" Cubs fans don't deserve a World Series Champion.
Why?

If the Cubs want to win, they need pujols or fielder. fielder is better because he is yougner and a better hitter. Theo can do it easly so I have some hope in 2012.
Pujols or Fielder are not the only players needed, the team needs more depth in the rotation, need to cut Soriano and Byrd, etc.  One hitter is not going to lift this team to the playoffs - well maybe Pujols, he has lifted that overachieving Tards team to the NLCS this season.

This forum is the only place I've ever seen anyone suggest that Fielder is a "better hitter" than Pujols. Only a Cubs fan could entertain that notion.

He wasn't speaking for the majority, trust me.  We Cubs fans may be blissfully ignorant, but even we're smart enough to recognize that Pujols is a better hitter than Fielder.  However, Fielder is five years younger, and he is just starting his prime years, where Pujols (logically) should be finishing up his prime years in the next couple of seasons.  To me, Fielder appears to be the better long-term investment, whereas Pujols would be more of a short-term boon.

If the Cubs would go for another season-long suck in 2012, one of the best things we can hope for is that Soriano plays out of his mind up through the All-Star break, so we can ship him off to some idiotic team in need of a outfielder for the stretch run.

Even Pujols couldn't lift a team to the playoffs by himself.  The Cardinals this year had Carpenter, Holliday, and a surprisingly good season by Lance Berkman.  Even with all of that, they only made the playoffs by one game.  My guess is that the Cardinals without Pujols would be better than the Cubs with Pujols.  The Cubs' starting pitching is pretty desolate, and they'll have to hope that their prospects live up to their expectations.

Pujols was the catalyst for their September/October run...the other guys may have kept the Cards afloat but it wasn't until Pujols started heating up in September that the Cards put together a run that enabled them to sneak into the playoffs.

If the Cubs are going to target one of Fielder/Pujols, my choice would be Fielder,  for the reasons jweb stated.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Pujols stay with the Cards, hopefully at a big enough price tag to prevent them from making any more big moves.

If Pujols leaves St. Louis, he will immediately be compared to LeBron.  It would be nice to have him on the Cubs, but at least get him out of our division.

I have a suspicion that Pujols won't fit into an Epstein game plan.

Fielder would be a good match for Chicago & Wrigley, and he is younger, as has been pointed out. Maybe Boston will sign Fielder to replace Ortiz. Or...

Because Chicago is full of ugly people and ugly people don't deserve good things.

An SI writer projects what Epstein needs to do to get the Cubs a title.  I agree on all of his points, actually.

best Pujols/Cubs line ever.

No way the Cubs sign Pujols next year. If I know the Cubs, they sign him after the 10 year contract to a 15m/yr contract at 42 and save 15m a year.

I can't believe this failed to draw a response.  You must be losing your touch.
