Well, the filing part was a bit of an exaggeration but they can effectively de-ball him while paying out his salary.

But I still think both take a hit, publicly, if this doesn't happen.   I just think the Cubs stand to lose more in the fan's eyes.   Red Sux fans are blaming everyone for their failures this year.   Cubs fans are still looking for a scapegoat for next year's failures.
Yeah, I know you were exaggerating but you should know that having Theo do anything but GM duties is going to be a breach of contract, unless they promote him to another position.

A GM with no say isn't really a GM.   The Sux would be better off getting something and cutting him loose rather than getting nothing while giving him no power but, as we saw with Francona, they can be a vindictive bunch.    As I said, all they stand to lose is money.

I think the "Same old Cubs" fanbase is substantially larger than the one that backs Ricketts.

ESPN: a clearing house for idiots.

Then Epstein has to figure out how to get Pujols and La Russa to the Cubs.

Nothing against Dusty Baker, who has won his division wherever he's been manager, but after watching the uncanny roll that La Russa was on in the National League playoffs and Wednesday's Game 1 of the World Series as he mixed and matched pitchers,

And then the next game he outmanaged himself - no thanks to both.

if people were playing a drinking game based on Ego saying 'the Cubs way' or 'when I was with the Red Sox', nobody would still be standing upright
10/25/2011 1:47 PM

When are Cubs fans ever standing upright?

10/25/2011 1:49 PM
When being escorted to jail?

10/26/2011 3:43 PM
screw those McNutts...I'd expect Castro at this point

Ego never could judge a decent SS to save his life....
10/26/2011 3:55 PM
I'm pretty sure the Cubs have replaced the Cardinals in the World Series due to the hiring of Thego!!!

this is a tricky spot for Ego right away...now that he's there, he is in charge of deciding the compensation for himself.....

knowing how much he thinks of himself, he might just send Wrigley Field to Boston as an opener
