You got two real sacks of laughable crap for Youk.
The move was to put Gonzo back at 1B for good and to have Middlebrooks play everyday at 3B.  It's a addition by subtraction.
I disagree.  Youk was, is and always will be better than Middlebrooks.  It's a sign to me that hey they are dogging this season.  Can't believe they traded him
You are a fool if you think that Youk is better than Middlebrooks right now.

I can't stand the Debbie-downer fans in Boston.....can't stand the media either.  Yeah, the Sox are really just throwing the season away.

F'ing tards.
Admittedly, I have not been paying close attention this season.

I can however spot a flash in the pan.

Middlebrooks was uninspiring as a minor leaguer (solid extra bases but damn that K/BB split).  Why would you think he'll make a competant major leaguer?

Youk statistically has been below average this season, yes.  But he had earned the right to play here and turn it around (RE: David Ortiz).

It's dumb.
It's called making adjustment.  Dude is 23 and has shown major signs in adjusting his approach.

If we hold on to our aging vets and over pay them because of loyalty, we'll end up like the Yanks in the early 2000's.  Spending a crap ton of $$$ and doing nothing with it.

Happy to have had Youk for 9 years....but he clearly hasn't been the same guy since 2010.  Time to move on.

This guy on the other hand will smoke major league pitching when he finds a place to play.  He sure as hell can't catch.

Shame he'll be trade bait.  I think he'll be a stud DH/part time C in the bigs.  Hope we can get a #1 starting pitcher for him.

Love Youk and everything he gave to this team while he was here (although his rants about Boston fans from time did rub me the wrong way a bit)......in the limited scope, I don't love that he was traded, but in the big picture it makes sense.....

the front office went into the season throwing the season away, in my opinion.....and they were

keeping things the same would have been cement evidence that they had no interest in fielding a winning team this year....making changes and/or letting other people have the chance to produce is the only sign they have given in the last 10 months that they care at all......

Yeah, post-season action every year between 2000 and 2007 is nothing.

Dumbass.

think it was either don or jerry, but one of them said that everyone in the stadium stops what they are doing to watch middlebrooks take BP.  i suspect more went into the evaluation of middlebrooks as future 3b (and out Youk) than just a knee jerk "he's hit the ball well for a month"

Guy was a .330 OBP guy in the minors.  Striking out 3 X's for every free pass to boot.

I'll pass on this guy.

I am in agreement w/ed.  Sox tossed this season out the window b/f the season started.

If the Sox really had strong title aspirations this season Mike Aviles would not be the SS.

Someone like Jed Lowrie, for example?  At least the Sux got Melancon for him and Weiland.

Or how about Marco Scutaro.  Mortensen is doing great in Pawtucket.

Great trades.

The greatest Quintana to ever play a game in Boston remains Carlos

Only 9.5 back!!!!

Just need the starting pitching to shape up.  I like what i've seen from Clay the past several outings.  Just need Beckett and Lester to join him.  Good to see Shopp getting extended play.  Salty looked gassed recently.

Beckett gave up five runs - four earned - and seven hits, striking out seven and walking three. Entering Friday's game, the right-hander had a 10.20 ERA in his opening innings and 3.36 combined in all others.
