Let's put it this way - I will take your bet if you're actually going to offer it.

No.  Then I'd be accused of rooting for them to let him walk.   I know we've convicted the guy.   And I know most everyone with any knowledge of this has convicted the guy.  But, unless someone from PSU steps forward and basically admits knowledge of his behavior and a cover-up, I don't know how much evidence there actually is.   I can't imagine anyone from Second Mile stepping forward and saying "Yeah, we thought he was pretty sketchy."

Showering with the kids is against the law, certainly not the same level of offense, but it is still a violation.  He will be convicted of that offense alone and when you add up the times, etc. I bet he gets jail time just for that.

I don't think this ever goes to trial, he will agree to a deal and go away for 10 years (or something like that) and then it will just be all the civil trials.

Even with that, while I think the case will only get stronger now that everything is out there and more victims are coming forward, I don't know that I think it was necessary.  Have you read the indictment?  I don't think juries tend to disregard the testimony of sexual abuse victims whether it's been 10 years or not (and again, it hasn't been), especially when there are multiple completely independent victims here.  And there is plenty of additional witness testimony that backs up their stories.  I really think you're not lending enough weight to what it means that the state attorney general's office handled this investigation and came up with a grand jury indictment on 40 counts across 8 victims.

See the interview?  Hear that 2-3 second pause when asked by Bob Costas if he was sexually attracted to young boys? pretty telling.

It actually took him 16 seconds to get that lie out of his mouth.

Yeah, Im pretty sure he didnt stop 10 years ago. There's bound to be some very recent stuff come up. He may have taken his act outside of the Penn State lockerroom in recent years--but there's no way he stopped altogether.

In an email to a friend, McQueary says he stopped it (not physically) but it was over when he left and that he told the police.
11/16/2011 10:25 AM
Well, the "told the police" is going to be a real problem for a lot of people if proven to be true.  That goes beyond PSU.
11/16/2011 10:41 AM
Well, I don't think he was specific - it could have been university police.
11/16/2011 10:44 AM
I interpreted it to being university police. I think technically University Police are full-fledged officers with jurisdiction over the campus. Thats how it was when I went to college--and in the few alcohol related run-ins I had with them they were sure to tell me that they were real police.

The Penn State University Police provides all law enforcement and security services to the University Park campus. We employ:
  • 46 full-time armed officers
  • Six traffic and parking officers
  • Five police dispatcher/recorders
  • Approximately 200 students as auxiliary officers and escorts

The department provides 24-hour patrol services to the campus and University-owned properties year round. The University Police is governed by a state statute that gives our officers the same authority as municipal police officers.

Paterno sold his house to his wife for $1 in July.   Asset protection.  I think "He didn't know" is out the window.

Over the last ten years, inflation has risen 26%. Your 2001 dollar is now worth 74 cents.

Over the last ten years the tuition at Penn State has risen 106%.

That's over 4 times the rate of inflation.

It must cost alot to shut people up.

I wonder if they still don't have the "contemplation of death theory" in P.A.?
