We just finished up the 1920 regular season of the No Whining Progressive Random Edition, and the final days of the regular season were incredible.

With 5 games to play, the standings looked like this:
National League Standings
East Owner Wins Losses Win % Runs Scored Runs Allowed
Boston Leopards 06gsp 100 57 0.637 971 674

Note Detroit's run differential of +390...rarefied air...in real MLB only the 1939 Yankees have ever exceeded that.

The schedule makers must have been prescient, because the final 5 game series in each league had the contenders going head to head...Boston visiting St. Louis and Detroit in Chicago.

Would you believe that after 3 games, both races we're still in play? The 2nd place teams each swept the first 3 (odd of this happening, assuming the teams were evenly matched: 1 in 64). The standings after G160 were:

Note that Detroit was now +409 in run differential.

In game 161, Chicago finally clinched with a nail-biting 1-0 victory, but St. Louis won AGAIN and the NL was in a flat-footed tie:

In game 162 in the NL, St. Louis led 2-1 in the 9th, but Boston tied it up and then finally won the game (and the pennant) in 12 innings. Baby Doll Jacobson's 3-run HR in the 12th was the big hit.

Detroit finished +418 in RD, with an Exp Pct of .727, but still will sit out the postseason. Believe it, or Don't!

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
In a 2023 progressive I added Josh Donaldson late as a defensive sub.

41 games into the season he is 9 for 46 and hitting .196 which seems about right.

However 7 of those 9 hits are Home Runs and he is slugging .674.

He has not feasted on tired pitching. Stadiums are all current and nothing major. Home ballpark is Houston where he has hit 4 and 3 on the road at Target Field, Petco and Wrigley.

All that is missing is a blown out calf muscle.

From a 1968 prog:

Jim Hickman scores the winning run in the 25th inning after being drilled in the leg to get on base.

Prior to that HBP, he'd gone 0-10!

Not the most uncommon occurrence, but when’s the last time you’ve seen a DH lead the MVP race? (We’re only 8 games into the season)

In our 2023 league Juan Soto is 2nd in MVP voting at the All Star Break. He has played 408 innings at DH, 104 in LF, 7 in RF and 84 at 1B. So not quite a full time DH and only in 2nd but it is much later in the season.

A single-season progressive league game, 1987, my Seattle team holds off an 8-run 9th inning rally by Boston to win by a field goal, 16-13. Believe it, or Don't!

Overperformers Dept.

In real life, RP Tyler Matzek threw 29 innings in the shortened 2020 season, going 4-3 with a 2.79 ERA,

Through 101 games of a single-season prog, these are his stats:

12-0, 0.87 ERA

He's not only #3 in Cy Young voting, he's the ROY leader, too—despite having a previous season in the sim way back in 2014!
