Ha! I'd be openly whining my butt off if it were me. I have no shame when it comes to bemoaning my bad luck.

As it turns out, over the past seven seasons four different owners (including yours truly!) have beaten out this poor guy for the pennant.

Two first basemen from a 1947 prog:

233 PA, .232/.408/.277, 2 HR

230 PA, .318/.478/.653, 17 HR

The first one is Hank Greenberg.

The second one is also Hank Greenberg, after he was traded to another team.

Believe It or Don't!
When I look to make trades mid-season, I always look at studs that have underperformed as targets......it happens a lot, where once they are traded they go lights out to get back to normal.

So, I BELIEVE IT!

In my team’s 51st game, I already got a 20 game winner!

My 08 Walsh is 20-1 in 26 starts!

Since tinypic is down, I gotta find a new site to post pics from, so I’ll try to give proof ASAP!

Any suggestions?

Well, that stinks. Nearly every image I've posted on WIS was from tinypic. This thread especially is going to be full of dead links.

Then again:

“Nothing in the world is permanent, and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it.” -- W. Somerset Maugham

It was free, it was easy to use. I'll remember it fondly.

RIP tinypic

EDITED TO ADD: Went through this entire thread and managed to save most of the images I'd posted (a few were already dead) to Google Photos. Thanks for the heads up, d_rock -- according to tinypic's site, all their images will be gone by Monday.

Most of my pics were screenshots from WIS. I just gotta find them all and create a new folder on my phone until I find a new image hosting site

I heard a good one. Get this, The Chicago Cubs won a world Series recently.

I realize it's not uncommon to outhit your opponent and still lose...but lose by 14?

Believe It or Don't!

P.S. Can everyone see the image?

Can't see the image...but losing by 14 and outhitting your opponent is particularly strange.

Thanks, mattedesa. I noticed I can see the image when I'm signed into Google, but not otherwise.

Can anyone recommend an image hosting site (not tinypic or Google Photos!) that's free and reliable? I just edited the above post using imgbb.com. Can you see it now?
11/12/2019 12:05 AM
no. Not on Mozilla.
11/12/2019 9:02 AM
Well, I guess I'll give up on the images. Too dumb to figure this out.

I see it on Chrome. But yeah, Imgur ain’t working for these forums, so I gave up as well

Below are the win totals for the Washington franchise, from 1941-45, in the 100 Year War progressive league:

101
103
93
97
118

Despite averaging 102.4 wins a season, this team failed to make the playoffs even once.

Believe It or Don't!
UPDATE: In 1946, this team won 96 games -- and once again failed to make the playoffs. If you're scoring at home, that's an average of 101.3 wins a season over 6 seasons (1941-46) with no post-season games.

By the way, talk about wrong place at the wrong time. If Washington were in the NL instead of the AL, they would have won the pennant (and thus gone straight to the World Series) five times. The sixth time they would have had to play a play-in game to break a first place tie.

Believe It or Don't!
UPDATE II: 1947. Team won 103 games. Missed the playoffs.

Which now makes 711 wins in 7 seasons with no post-season games.

And yes, they once again would have won the pennant if they played in the other league.

Believe It or Don't!
UPDATE III: 1948, won 90 games, missed the playoffs, yada yada yada.

801 wins in 8 seasons, not one playoff appearance.

From the same prog in the above post, my team just lost its third straight World Series. Nevertheless, our star Joe Dimaggio continued to pad his prodigious WS stats, hitting 5 HR and knocking in 12 runs in a 7-game series. The following are his numbers from 8 WS appearances in this prog:

47 games
84 hits, 11 doubles, 6 triples, 20 HR
54 runs, 68 rbi
.408/.466/.811

20 World Series HR! In real life, Mickey Mantle holds the record with 18 HR.

Believe It or Don't!

P.S. In this prog, second most WS HR belongs to Babe Ruth, who hit 14 in 42 games. Has anyone ever seen more than 20 WS HR in a prog?
