and his season's ERA dropped a whole 1/2 point after that unlikely outing.

So that 2016 prog team did wind up squeaking into the playoffs as the wild card:

This division's unlucky third place team had the fourth best record in the entire 24-team league!

As fate would have it, in the first playoff round my prog team above had to face the team we traded our best reliever to at the deadline. I was worried he'd be the difference in the series, but nope, he gave up 2 runs in 2 innings, and we won the series in 4 games.

I don't like to see the sim reward stupid managing, but if some stupid manager has to be rewarded it might as well be me!

I have 8 active leagues, and in today's AM cycle, we were 1-7, but outscored our opponents 184 to 122!

Believe It or Don't!

(This confusing stat is brought to you by a gimmick league in which we won, 169-81.)

I am definitely confused...that means you went 0-7 in the other games, but outscored your opponents 41-15. That doesn't add up....

Caterpillar into Butterfly dept.

My 1963 prog team was supposed to be a contender, but we got off to a rocky start (27-35) and found ourselves in 3rd place in a tough division, about 10 and 8 games back of the teams ahead of us. Since stumbling out of the gate, however, we've gone on a 33-10 tear and now sit at 60-45, in 2nd place, just one game back of the leader.

I was trying to figure out what changed, and a lot of it comes down to a single player: starting pitcher (and team ace) Ralph Terry. His stats when we were slumping:

W-L 6-8
101 IP
4.54 ERA

His stats since then:

W-L 11-1
97 IP
1.48 ERA

Believe It or Don't!

EDIT: Terry's now up to 16-1 since the slow start!

So this just happened. 7 games behind with 7 to play and now we have a 3-way tie for first and WC.

I won last 7 games, beating last place team last 4.

Bring back bad memories of my '87 Blue Jays

I like the Jays now, but in '87 the Tigers were my team. What a race that was!

And Trammell should have gotten the MVP, not George Bell!

Final update on Warren Spahn and his terrific run in the 100 Year War progressive. 1963 is done, and Spahn doesn't have any more good years left (although I'll keep him on the roster for 1964-65 in an attempt to get him to 500 career wins).

That's 17 straight seasons with 20 or more wins and 300 or more innings!

What the hell went on in 1957 - 47 wins?
3/25/2023 6:28 PM
That was 1958, and we had a powerhouse team that won 115 games. The playoffs were never in doubt, so to keep myself entertained I micromanaged Spahn to as many wins as possible -- starts only against the weakest teams, and against everyone else he was in the Tandem B role, with the Tandem A guy a decent righty like Ralph Terry or Art Ditmar to set up the righty-to-lefty switch. I was disappointed Spahn didn't get to 50 wins, because he had a shot near the end of the season.
