The SIM only decides the distro if everyone on the floor has the same value. If you have everyone set to zero, then yes the SIM will totally control the distribution. But if you only have one guy at zero then the other 4 players on the floor will have some value and the guy with zero will not get any distro (other than the case of a late shot clock situation).

Correction; if everyone has the same value AND that value is zero.

I don't see a difference between 0-0-0-0-0, 1-1-1-1-1, or 20-20-20-20-20

The general consensus is that distro is done as a percentage. If that's the case, then the difference between these can be elucidated pretty easily. 

If your five are at 1-1-1-1-1, then they each get 1/5 of the plays run for them (i.e. 20%)
If your five are on 20-20-20-20-20, then they each get 20/100 of the plays run for them (i.e. 20%)
If your five are on 0-0-0-0-0, then they each get 0/0 of the plays run for them (i.e. division by zero error)

So that's why they're different. It doesn't tell you how the 0-0-0-0-0 case is handled, but consensus seems to be that WIS just goes to your best options in that case.

This is true, except that you would need to define best option.  It is the player the engine likes the most as an offensive player.  This gives no regards to matchups. It is looking at all the atributes in a vacuum, which is why you give up your advantage as a coach if you let the sim decide your distro for you

Bump for #18. This was my most surprising. I had a very underwhelming Westminster team in Phelan D3 which had only 1 player I'd consider "high quality/elite" for D3 (Morrell). I did have some older guys (4 seniors, 3 juniors) but something really strange I noticed about my team-- I had never really looked since I played m2m, but was facing a press team in the title game so I checked out my team stamina and it was 84. Wow. I can't get it that high with my Press team....

Bump for #19. 40 seasons into D3 Knight, still at the same school, 0-4 in previous NC games-- started some guys in the regular season to get work ethic up, and then played my "real" lineup in the postseason and won by an average margin of victory of >22 points per game. Crazy monkey off my back.

Congrats on finally beating the curse.  Never could quite figure out the NT jinx on your program there (Except of course for the title game I beat you in ;-)).  
BTW, WTF happened to SoCal?  It used to be the dominant conference by far and one of the dominant in all of D3 by conference RPI records and loaded with top tier coaches.  Now its a ghost town.

I think Kmason was the driving force behind it and he left like 20 seasons ago or something and it's slowly gone downhill since then, I don't care enough to message people to keep it active. I actually almost left there myself last year.
