One playoff team(83-79) and a bunch of 90-100 loss teams.

I guess you could find a world that contradicts that but you'll have to if you want me to buy that it's meaningless.
i wasn't able to find the link to post it like above, but in season 20 of Sandlot, the bottom eight minus teams featured a 95 win team and a 103 win team. the top 8 plus teams featured 4 playoff teams but also teams with losses of 95, 85 and 83. the numbers here certainly suggest it's beneficial to have a good fielding team, but to weigh this and ignore the offensive prowess of clubs is inaccurate.

just to add to all of this, while i do think +/- CAN be indicative of a good owner, it's certainly not all inclusive and shouldn't outweigh advantages in parity to the extent of dropping a world over 100 slots below one that had more 100w/100l teams and 1 super team. All that being said, I can see weighing Hamilton ahead of Sandlot when considering other intangibles. But 100 slots better? No friggin' way.

its less than 100 spots with my corrected calculation as posted earlier. Hamilton and Sandlot were on opposite ends of the fielding rankings. Hamilton was near the very top and Sandlot was one of the very worst. Hamilton was also better in the pitching rankings. There wasnt a huge difference in the parity rankings between these worlds.

Parity by far is given the most weight in my formula. There just wasnt a huge difference in parity between these two worlds.

No one hads been able to pinpoint what is wrong with Hamilton. Parity is  average, pitching is above average and fielding is elite. Someone show me something that is measurable that shows that there is something off in this world that they are overrated in my rankings.

Colorado had the best +- ratio and made it to the world series.
Wichita had the worst--they did win 95 games, but it looks like the tank is on or the bottom fell out aftermany succesful seasons.

I should have noticed that you were the commish. I appreciate that you want to defend the world. You are wrapping up this season. The most recent season will be captured in a couple weeks when I am done revising the parity formula. (Im not changing the weight, just the calculation to fix the bias of penalizing 100 losses, but not 99 losses.

I posted this seasons, not last seasons. The +- factor will be similarly bad.

The Sandlot season 20 score will benefit from the new parity calculation/ They did have some teams just on the cusp of 100 w/l but Sandlot would still be ranked below Hamilton.

Hamilton has a weird "feel" because I have an antagonistic relationship with a handful of owners(including the commish).   Short version is I, and several others, believe the world is on the cusp of becoming an "elite" world.  Yet, every season, the commish brings in at least one "blow it up" owner.  They join, look at their 78 win team for 7 minutes and declare "This is a mess.  Everyone over the age of 27 is available!"   So, before coach rehiring even starts, we have 6 pages of "Why do you always bring one of these assclowns in?" arguments.    It sets a bad tone.

And, when I get the chance, I bust SB's balls.   Like him fighting so hard to keep the owner you replaced with your ATL team.   That owner sent him 3m to sign his picks a few seasons back(check the trade history).   It was a "questionable" deal and I raked SB over the coals about it because I think he works a little underhanded.   Duff Beer - last in your rankings says a little something.
4/13/2012 9:39 PM
All that said, there's nothing really "wrong" with the world.   Dumbassery, intentional or unintentional, is policed by about 20 owners.   Nothing shady ever happens.  But there are 3-4 "fights" every season.
4/13/2012 9:40 PM
Gonna be tough for Hamilton to cross over to "elite" status if the commish is part of the problem.
4/13/2012 9:53 PM
dmurph, last request of you: where does the Sandlot rank in parity rankings alone?

Well, yeah.   I've already said some turnover is good.  But you have to bring in quality when you replace someone.  That doesn't happen frequently enough in Hamilton  Thus some of the animosity.

Of course, using my simple little formula of bottom 8 in wins vs. league average in RA, Hamilton scored better than Mantle.   IOW, the bottom of Mantle appears to be worse than the bottom 25% in Hamilton.    YOU need to do better.

Interesting point.  I never thought of looking at this before.

Four new owners were brought into Mantle this season.  The cumulative records of those four teams last season was 311-337 (.480).  The cumulative records of those four teams, under new ownership at the halfway mark this season, is 178-146 (.549).
4/13/2012 11:10 PM
Then they're probably not in the bottom 8 in wins, are they?
4/13/2012 11:36 PM
Well, not any more.
