AMERICA CUP Season 12, PRIOR SEASON, OLD THREAD Topic

THE AMERICA CUP

SEASON 12

Invites have been sent out to MLB players both past and present, to represent their home state or country at the 12th America Cup. Teams from across the U.S. and various combinations of countries will compete for this prestigious championship. You have be asked to take the helm of GM and assistant coach to help select and manage your team. Below, each division has been laid out with the invites that have been sent...however, you may select others based on their birthplace...so the lists below are only to help select your team. Look here for additional players: http://www.baseball-reference.com/bio/ Additional league criteria are as follows:

  • 40-game minimum live play. It would be nice to see each owner go over 100 games live. Only committed owners will be accepted. If you have a history of not making the minimum live play in other leagues, you should skip this league. Note: I changed this from the 60 minimum that was in the first 11 seasons due to modern reality.
  • $120 million cap. Same as Seasons 1-11
  • 6/4 average AAA to help fill holes. AAA players should be renamed to other players that were born in your states/countries, but were not everyday players (ie. make them AAA player like if you can...use some little known names you are familiar with for old times sake or name them after a celebrity who was born there, for example the real Trump for Team 2). You can use www.baseball-reference.com/bio
  • Clones NO; DH NO; WW NO; Trades NO
  • 200 K Players. May be from anywhere, but you must send them down to AAA immediately and not use them.
  • Team Names: They must be based on your teams location or area. Some are simple: Texas______ ; others need to be more creative: Pacific Northwest _________ or Rocky Mountain______ or Prairie _______. Combined International teams will be a challenge, but lets stay away from nonsense names this time around.
  • League number: MLB100927.

Started by Habsfan1 and commissioned by him for 10 seasons, the format is the same but I have made a few minor changes. They are: Banning the waiver-wire (really, your 25 going in should be your 25 going out, especially since there are no trades anyway), updating several stadiums, and realigning the NY teams (starting with season 11). (Team 2, Brooklyn, was 1 of only 2 teams to have never made the playoffs or reach 85 wins in the league's first 10 seasons. I am from Brooklyn and it's great that we now have the Nets, but as for baseball, there is nothing special about this bunch by itself.)

Here is the BIG change beginning with season 12
Since there is no consistent boundary that separates eastern and western Pennsylvania (the I-81 veers further east as it goes north, giving Philly a huge disadvantage even with access to Pitt's rejects), the 2 PA teams will engage in a snake draft in which all PA-born players with at least 1 WifS season are eligible. The $120M cap will still apply, so keep that in mind when drafting. The teams are to sitemail all picks to each other and to me. Because the format is a snake draft, each team will only need to take 13 separate turns with every pick except the first and last being 1 of 2 consecutive picks. Since Team 6 (Philly) has a historically worse record of futility, it will get the choice of picking 1st and 4th or 2nd and 3rd, but Team 5 (Pitt) has this choice in odd-numbered seasons beginning with season 13.

Note that I am changing the Live minimum to 40 games (plus all postseason must be played Live). I thought 60 wasn't a lot but unfortunately I was wrong.

National League Central

NOTE regarding Pennsylvania: From seasons 4 to 11, team 6 could take any unused player from team 5's region. Starting with season 12, that rule has been replaced with the 2-team PA snake draft, in which Philly (team 6) will choose whether to pick 1st and 4th or 2nd and 3rd in odd-numbered seasons, and Pitt (team 5) will make that choice in even-numbered seasons. Instead of being known as Eastern PA and Western PA, the teams will simply be known as Pittsburgh (team 5) and Philadelphia (team 6) and will both represent all of Pennsylvania's vast playoff pool with unique rosters.
