That 50 team is impressive. I think the best set up I have seen was a year or so ago a DIII team had 25 SR and 25 SO. Forgot who that was though ha
I've wanted to do this kind of thing, or at least what damauler has at Hiram
The 25/25 thing sounds good on paper but isn't as sound as what I have at Hiram. With that method, you would never utilize redshirts. With the way I have it at Hiram, I recruit 3 guys who redshirt into the large classes. Every other year I basically recruit 3 then 20.
That 50 man team is overkill in this engine tbh. I think in the old engine where stamina mattered more, that team model makes a lot more sense.
I think it was more for the novelty than actual performance. But yeah, overkill is the right word to describe it.
So at Hiram you redshirt every season, or just when you recruit 3 players?
I redshirt 3 every year. Here is how it breaks down...
Year 1- Recruit 3...redshirt all.
Year 2- Recruit 21...redshirt 3.
Year 3- Recruit 3...redshirt all.
Year 4- Recruit 20...redshirt 3.
Year 5- Recruit 3...redshirt all.
If you plan on doing anything where you use redshirts, then you need to think of recruiting in 5 year cycles basically...or your roster being 47 guys. As you can see by the plan above, the Year 2 class is still 21 guys, BUT 3 are now redshirted into the class and put the other 3 redshirted from Year 2 into Year 3's class...and so on and so forth. So on your big year, you have 3 Srs*, 17/18 Srs, and 3 Jrs*...or 23-24 players with 4 or more years of experience...plus 3 more with 3 years.
