D-III American Southwest Conference All-Americans Topic

Thought it be a fun idea to make a conference All-American list. There's a lot of down time for most people after the season, especially if they didn't make the playoffs. And people really love some of the players on their team and most of the time, they don't receive any awards, so I thought it'd be fun to make an All-American team for the members of my conference.

I got this up kind of late and now the links for most of the players are no longer working. So this season I'll try and get it done either right before or right after the Conference Championship game. This was kinda fun to do so if anybody else would like it done for their conference, if I have the time I'd be more than happy to make a list.

**Gonna keep this all in one thread. Make it a little easier, and better for record keeping.**

For the "second year," I am able to put together a Conference All-American team list as an added bonus for the committed coaches of the American Southwest Conference. It is an honor and a privilege to do this (and a whole lot of fun). Enjoy!
___________________________________________________

The American Southwest Conference enjoyed a stellar year from its participating schools:

East Texas Baptist
Lead by coach agoptix, he has guided ETB to its best season to date and is currently the #1 seed in the South Region. ETB also had the distinct honor of being the #1 ranked school thoroughout most of the year according to the Press, Coaches, and WIS. ETB was undefeated up until the conference championship game, with quality wins over Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MAC) winner and now #1 ranked Moravian, and Ohio Athletic Conference champion Mount Union.
Grade: A+

Texas Lutheran
In his 20th season, all with Texas Lutheran, Coach Mongstad42 has led the Bulldogs to a great 10-3 year, just falling short of the playoffs. Texas Lutheran showed much promise early on in the year, beating perennial powerhouse peanutjets and his Anderson (IN) squad 31-28. Texas Lutheran began conference play ranked #2 in D-III, facing off against then #1 ranked East Texas Baptist, losing in a hard fought defensive struggle, 10-7. Texas Lutheran looked prime for a playoff run, but a late stumble against Claremont McKenna-Harvey led to just barely missing out on an at-large bid.
Grade: A-

Hardin-Simmons
Coach Someone78 led the Cowboys to a respectable 9-4 season. Having started off great, going 5-0 in non-conference play, the team faced some tough breaks during conference play. Losing in double OT to Cal Lutheran in the conference opener seemed to stun the team as they were a 20.5 favorite in the game. Hardin-Simmons would have great first halfs, but then fall short later in games, examples being against then #1 ranked East Texas Baptist and top 10 Texas Lutheran. A good team and coach that just fell short in a couple games, look for them to rebound strong in season 76 under the leadership of someone78 (hint, hint , nudge nudge)
Grade: B+

McMurry
Facing a very uphill battle, first year coach zachd78 performed admirably. The highlight of McMurry's season being their week 4 matchup against Guilford (11-2), taking them to overtime and just coming up short 19-16. McMurry has scheduled a very tough season 76 non-conference schedule, but zachd78 will have McMurry up to the challenge and leading the War Hawks back to prominence.
Grade: B- (Did the best with what you had, good job zachd78!)

Austin
After coming up short in the quaterfinals of last years playoffs, Austin College, led again by Coach SJCI, was looking to rebound with a strong year. After surviving a strong test from peanutjets led Anderson (IN), Austin was able to finish out the year undefeated, 13-0, but was faced with a low WIS ranking due to a poor non-conference schedule. The Kangaroos were able to win the American Southwest Conference title over a tough #1 East Texas Baptist team, enabling them to sneak into the #2 spot in the North Region of the D-III playoffs.

Season Reviews

Austin
After losing again in the playoff quarterfinals, Austin was looking to rebound with a strong year. The team however, graduated many seniors, and had an incoming senior class of 5 players. After pulling in the #1 ranked GUESS Recruit Class, and having the 6th ranked GUESS Roster, hope was high for the Austin Kangaroos. While young, the team was still able to pull off a great season, going 14-0 and the Kangaroos were able to win the American Southwest Conference title, meeting up again with an incredibly talented top 10 team East Texas Baptist.  Austin is the #2 seed in the West Region of the D-III playoffs.
*Special Note: Coach SJCI achieved his 100th in D-III during the season*
Grade: A

East Texas Baptist
ETB enjoyed a fantastic season last year, going farther than the school ever has in the D-III playoffs, advancing to the quarterfinals. Bringing in the 15th Best Recruit Class in D-III , along with the 13th Best Roster, Coach Agoptix was hoping to continue to build off the previous season. ETB scheduled an incredibly tough non-conference schedule (#2 in D-III), but that tough schedule prepared them for the hard road they faced ahead. Now a #4 seed in the South Region, ETB is hoping to again make a long playoff run.
Grade: A+

Hardin-Simmons
Last season was a tough one for Hardin-Simmons, going 9-4 after a very challenging non-conference schedule so the Cowboys and Coach Someone78 were looking to rebound. Bringing in the 18th Best Recruit Class in D-III and the 22nd Best Roster, Coach Someone78 was hoping for a quick turnaround. And quick it was; Hardin-Simmons had a very fine season, going 12-1 and that one loss being a close game against ETB. The Cowboys gained an at-large bid to the D-III playoffs, and are a #7 seed in the East Region.
Grade: A
*Special Note: Coach Someone78 also achieved his 100th D-III win this season*

McMurry
What a season it was for the War Hawks. In only his second season, Coach Zachd78 guided McMurry to an absolutely fantastic year. After spending years as a bottom team, Coach Zachd78 led the War Hawks to a 9-4 year. McMurry has only had two 9 win years in the past 24 seasons. The Highlight of the year perhaps being their 20-10 win at now  #3 Simpson; no small feat.
Grade: A+

Texas Lutheran
Texas Lutheran just missed out on the playoffs one year ago, so expectations were high for the Bulldogs. An early season loss seemed to have shocked the team a bit, and the Bulldogs finished with a respectable 8-5 record. Texas Lutheran had a very difficult non-conference scheduled (9th Overall in D-III). Whether that one loss was the difference between an at-large bid or just missing the playoffs may be debated for awhile, the Bulldogs should be very proud of the year they had and proud that they weren't one to shy away from tough competition. I have no doubt the Bulldogs will be back strong in Season 77.

Season Reviews

Austin
This year was a head scratcher for the Kangaroos. After breezing through non-con play, Austin lost two in a row to very tough squads in conference play (ETB and Hardin-Simmons). For what may have been the first time in 25+ seasons, Austin was not playing for the ASC championship and had to rely on an at-large playoff bid. What would have been a very disappointing season was saved by the Kangaroos making a brilliant run to the Final 4, coming up just short to a great Simpson team.
Grade: A-

East Texas Baptist
ETB enjoyed yet another amazing season. I think it is safe to say that East Texas Baptist is now a powerhouse. After winning the American Southwest Conference (ASC) for the first time ever for ETB, Coach Agoptix led his team to a #1 seed. After unfortunately stumbling to a 2nd round playoff loss, we look for ETB to be a D-III title contender for many seasons to come with Coach Agoptix at the helm.
Grade: A+

Hardin-Simmons
The season can be characterized best as a roller coaster. It seemed like Hardin-Simmons was well on its way to making another playoff appearance after gaining a major home win against Austin, however a tricky SIM
loss and a hard fought loss to East Texas Baptist saw Hardin-Simmons once again, staring from the outside in. A magnificant season that was derailed by an unfortunate loss.
Grade: A
*Special Note: Coach Someone78 is entering into a new chapter of life taking him away from GD Stagg. We wish him all the best*

Texas Lutheran
Texas Lutheran made a phenominal run in the Season 77 playoffs, entering as a 7 seed and scoring many upsets, advancing all the way to the 3rd round. The Bulldogs finished with a 13-4 record and finished the year ranked #22, their best finish in over 40 seasons!

Sorry for the delay and shorter write up for this past season guys. Things have been pretty hectic for me, the past couple weeks, and this slipped through the cracks. Luckily I was able to get most everyone down, I did miss the Honorable Mention Special Teamers, but who really cares about kickers anyways haha. I hope to make it up to you guys with the Season 78 write up!
==================

Side Note:

To All Other Coaches:

We are now down to 3 coaches in the ASC as we've had to say goodbye for now to the former coach at Hardin-Simmons, Someone 78. The game is a whole lot more fun with multiple coaches in the conference and we have a great time in the ASC. There are plenty of spots in the conference, and it doesn't take long for a team to rise in the ranks. Could be as quick as a season or 2. If you are looking for a conference/league to join, we would hope you would consider the ASC.

Season Reviews

Austin
One of the best years to date for the Kangaroos. Sailing through non-conference play, Austin had their first tough match-up against East Texas Baptist, and fought through to the Conference Final after missing out the previous year. There, Austin again faced East Texas Baptist and was able to secure their 21st Conference Title. Austin has entered the playoffs as the number 1 seed of the West Bracket, and has advanced so far to the Final Four, having to go through for the 3rd time, a very tough East Texas Baptist team, a testament to the great coaching of agoptix.
Grade: A+

East Texas Baptist
ETB continues to put together some great seasons. After winning the American Southwest Conference (ASC) for the first time ever for ETB, Coach Agoptix was looking to continue to bring that success to Season 78. After again scheduling one of the top non-conference schedules, ETB was able to get an at-large bid, the #6 seed in the West Bracket. Unfortunately, they ran into a tough Austin squad for the 3rd time and unfortunately, one of the close ASC palls had to loss. A great season none the less and another potentail top 10 WIS finish.
Grade: A+

**Special Note: Coach Agoptix achieved his 100th Victory at the end of last season. I missed that one, Congrats Agoptix!**

Hardin-Simmons
The inactive, cheating coach JDawg2201 has taken a proud Hardin-Simmons team, and has perhaps set them back a few seasons by not recruiting and not setting a practice plan. There is no place in WIS for "coaches" like this. Most likely, this is another coach who had taken control of this team to try and help their other team with doing extra recruiting.
Grade: F

*As per the allegations above, unfortunately, Hardin-Simmons players have been rulled inelligable for post season awards. We'd vacate the wins, but we don't have that power........yet"

Texas Lutheran
Texas Lutheran always seems to be on the cusp of greatness and playoff berths, but for some reason, be it a weaker SOS or an unfortuante SIM loss, Texas Lutheran just can't seem to get over the hump quite yet. After a great run, going 12-1, and that one loss being to #1 ranked Austin, Texas Lutheran was left out of the playoffs because of their 202nd ranked SOS. Tex Luth will be able to reload for Season 79, and hopefully make it into the playoffs.
Grade: A-

Howard Payne
First year coach david4211 had a great first recruit class, the 43rd overall. Howard Payne finished 5-8 after a tough schedule and things are only looking up for the team with Coach David4211. Also note, 3 of those 8 losses were by only 3 points, so Howard Payne could have just as easily gone 8-5. Season 79 will be a big year for HP.
Grade: B-

Mary Hardin-Baylor
After a rough start in recruiting, coach wsmith rolled through the bumps of being a first year coach with some great game planning, and finished the year 8-5. That included a game where they lost to #1, and current Final Four team Hiram, 17-13. AS was the case with Howard Payne, 4 of MHB's 5 losses were by 7 points or less (4,1,7,2). That in itself is shocking, knowing that MHB was a few plays here or there to being 12-1. Great job by Coach wsmith!

Side Note:

To All Other Coaches:

We are now proud to say the ASC has 5 active coaches and 1 dud. As said before, the game is a whole lot more fun with multiple coaches in the conference and we have a great time in the ASC. There are still plenty of spots in the conference, and like wmsith and david4211 showed, it doesn't take long for a team to rise in the ranks.  If you are looking for a conference/league to join, we would hope you would consider the ASC.

*Will Hopefully Update at the End of Season to reflect Possible New Player Records set and Special Recognitions.*
