I don't have much in the pipeline coming up for fielders, so it sounds like its fairly safe to leave him there for a few seasons. I can hit at catcher and RF but not much else right now.....

Yeah, he's sort of at the bottom end of what you want in the field but it's also one season of sample size.  With his ratings, I'd expect him to move more towards the what you'd expect.

I actually have this guy somewhat ready to take over right field. Do I leave fisher, or move on to this guy? Way, way better on defense, it's the hitting I'm not sure about. Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Benito Fuentes

Fuentes is a decent option against LH.   And he'd rack up + plays in LF.    I'd probably play him against LHP since Fisher is a 60something durability.   Then work Fuentes in some sort of rotation with your LF/1B in order to give them days off.

This guy -

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Eury Piedra

Played 140 games in RF in season, even though he's a catcher. He had around 160 runs created with decent OPS.

Defensively, he had 16 negative plays and his 1.15 range factor was worst in the league along with the .958 fielding percentage.

How would you go about evaluating whether or not putting this guy in RF was a net win - or if it was a net loss?

I'd compare him to the other RF in that league(he's not on your team and none of your teams are at game 162 so I don't know what league) and figure out how many outs he cost you.   Then I'd look at my other options in RF to see if I had anyone who could make up those lost out in production.

Mike, I think a lot of people have read this thread and gotten the wrong idea. In every world where I play, there are at least a couple failed catchers in right field dropping fly balls, and many of them aren't even very good hitters. You plan is like a nuclear weapon. It's a game changer if you use it right, but devastating if it falls into the hands of people who don't know how to use it.

One example is this guy, from a team I just took over:

http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=5668009

He had a .299 OBP last year, but the guy kept playing him in right, even though this was an AL team that could've DHed him if they were desperate for his mediocre bat.

I suspect no one reads the thread from the beginning to figure out why the idea even came about.

What it's for is if you're an NL team with a very good DH (or extra C with poor PC) who has a very good arm.  Anything less... is something less.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him understand why/how a C is RF can be useful.

This is the guy I did the experiment for:  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Kevin Ryu    His career .915 OPS makes the lack of defense irrelevant.

I have a good hitting backup C with 12 rng, 27, 65, 65 with a 54 pc. The starter is a better hitter and had a better PC and arm.

My backup C is young and needs ABs but he's only hitting .852 out there As a rookie this season but my RF starter is a career .774 and is on the downside in his career. Another one is hitting .731. Neither of those guys have better arms but they have much better range and glove.

I have better defensive catchers in my system so I put https://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerRatings.aspx?pid=5662243 in RF a season and a half ago. He's my team leader in OPS, and so far has done a comparable job to some of the "true RFs" I previously put out there.

My biggest problem with Player Profile: Edge Bigbie - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports has been his durability (55) not his defense. I'm sure my win % is at least 10% higher with him starting vs with him on the bench/PHing or on rest.

(With a Coors Field boost for his home games) .347/.465/.605 (1.070 OPS) with 23 HRs in 337 ABs; 71 BBs to 31 Ks; 10.22 RC27
(1.378 home OPS vs .822 road OPS!)

717.2 Innings in RF: 91 PO, 1 A, 7 E, 0 DP, 0+, 7-, .929 F%, 1.15 RF
Avg Bench NL RF: 993 innings, 145.3 PO, 4.3 A, 3.3 E, .3 DP, 2.25 +, 6.56 -, .976 F%, 1.34 RF
