ROUND 2 (Eight Leagues):

This is as straight-forward as it gets. This round is going to begin with a two-step process.  In the order that is predetermined by your W/L record in the previous round of the tournament, the first step will be figuring out where everyone wants to pick (i.e. draft order).  The second step will be the draft itself.   In Round One of the draft, once we know who's drafting when, you will choose the following: (1) if you want A.L. or N.L., (2) what year you want, and (3) whether you want hitting or pitching. The draft will be snake-style (1-24, 24-1) from that point.

For example, if you had the highest W/L record and came into Round TWO as the "Top Dog", you could choose first and take the best hitting squad available to you - but then you know that you will end up with whatever pitching squad is left over at the end of Round Two of this draft. You may want to pick in the middle or even 24th, if you feel it will give you the best team.

Alignment will be determined by the order of the draft (i.e., the first four picks that go with an N.L. squad will make up the N.L. East, etc.).

Here are some other items of interest:

NO:  Clones – Not In This Round.
NO:  Waiver Wire or A.A.A.
YES:  Trades of Draft Picks only.
NO:  Trading of Players.
YES:  Designated Hitter – YES.
NO:  Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP –$110

Stadium – For this round, we’re going to go with an even playing field (no pun intended).  WHATIFSPORTS Park for Everyone!

Who Moves On?
Once Round TWO is complete, the top 16 teams from each league will automatically earn a berth in Round Three.  That’s 128 teams for 144 spots.  The final sixteen teams will come from the best of the other 64 teams across all eight leagues.  Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.

All N.L. East Division winners go into Round Three, League 1.
All N.L. Central Division winners go into Round Three, League 2.
All N.L. West Division winners go into Round Three, League 3.
All A.L. East Division winners go into Round Three, League 4.
All A.L. Central Division winners go into Round Three, League 5.
All A.L. West Division winners go into Round Three, League 6.

That’s 8 teams in each of the Round Three leagues and 48 teams total.

Once we’ve removed the division-winning teams above, I’ll then do the following:

The next eight best teams in League 1 will go into Round Three, League 1.
The next eight best teams in League 2 will go into Round Three, League 2.
The next eight best teams in League 3 will go into Round Three, League 3.
The next eight best teams in League 4 will go into Round Three, League 4.
The next eight best teams in League 5 will go into Round Three, League 5.
The next eight best teams in League 6 will go into Round Three, League 6.
The next eight best teams in League 7 will be split up between Round Three, Leagues 1 and 3.
The next eight best teams in League 8 will be split up between Round Three, Leagues 4 and 6.

That’s 64 more spots to go along with the 48 already accounted for which makes 112 total.  The final 32 spots will be filled by the teams not yet accounted for above.  They will be placed in a league by me, based on balance of the league and owner/team situations.

ROUND 3 (Six Leagues):

We’re talking the four best teams (four different franchises) during many two-year periods (with the exception of the 19th Century – they’re more than two-year offerings).  Pick one of the two-year groupings and build your roster.  Minimum of six players from each of the four teams in your group must be used to build your roster.  Your twenty-fifth player can be a Free Agent that played for any other team (in your respective league) during that two-year period.  For the two teams in the A.L. East of League One that has players from 1885-1888 and 1889-1891, you can choose a player that played in any league during those years.  Draft order for each league will be determined by the number of wins in the previous round.

Alignment is already pre-determined.

Here are some other items of interest:

NO:  Clones – Not In This Round.
NO:  Waiver Wire, Trades or A.A.A.
YES:  Designated Hitter – YES.
NO:  Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP –$110

Stadium – You must use the Home Field of one of your four roster-making teams.   In the case of League ONE - if none of the stadiums for any of the teams in your grouping are available, you must use WhatIfSports Stadium.

Who Moves On?

Once Round THREE is complete, the top 14 teams from each league will automatically earn a berth in Round Three.  That’s 84 teams for 96 spots.  The final twelve teams will come from the best of the other 60 teams across all six leagues.  Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.

All Playoff teams from League 1 will go into Round 4, League 1.
All Playoff teams from League 2 will go into Round 4, League 2.
All Playoff teams from League 3 will go into Round 4, League 3.
All Playoff teams from League 4 will go into Round 4, League 4.

The N.L. East and N.L. Central Division Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 1.
The A.L. East and A.L. Central Division Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 2.
The N.L. West and N.L. Wildcard Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 3.
The A.L. West and A.L. Wildcard Winners from Leagues 5 and 6 go into Round 4, League 4.

That’s 12 teams in each of the Round Four leagues and 48 teams total.  After that…

The next six best teams in League 1 will go into Round Four, League 1.
The next six best teams in League 2 will go into Round Four, League 2.
The next six best teams in League 3 will go into Round Four, League 3.
The next six best teams in League 4 will go into Round Four, League 4.
The next six best teams in League 5 will be split up between Round Four, Leagues 1 and 2.
The next six best teams in League 6 will be split up between Round Four, Leagues 3 and 4.

That’s 36 more spots to go along with the 48 already accounted for which makes 84 total.  The final 12 spots will be filled by the teams not yet accounted for above.  They will be placed in a league by me, based on balance of the league and owner/team situations.

ROUND FOUR (Four Leagues):

I went through and looked at the winning percentage for every franchise (between 1892-2011/2) and found where the totaling up of the winning percentages of a franchise’s back-to-back seasons fell between .990 and 1.010.  You get to use a lot of players/seasons here that you probably don’t have a lot of experience with.  We’re sticking with the N.L. vs. A.L. split in all four leagues.  Draft order for each league will be determined by the number of wins in the previous round.

Alignment will be as per the draft order, keeping the N.L./A.L. split in mind.

Here are some other items of interest:

NO:  Waiver Wire, Trades or A.A.A.
YES:  Designated Hitter – YES.
YES:  Clones – This Round Only.
NO:  Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP –None – Build the best roster you can!

Stadium – You must use the park that your franchise called home during those two years.

Who Moves On?
Once Round FOUR is complete, the top 10 teams from each league will automatically earn a berth in Round Three.  That’s 40 teams for 48 spots.  The final eight teams will come from the best of the other 56 teams across all four leagues.  Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.

The twenty best teams (10 from each league) from Leagues 1 and 2 will go into Round 5, League 1.
The twenty best teams (10 from each league) from Leagues 3 and 4 will go into Round 5, League 2.

That’s 20 teams in each of the Round Five leagues and 40 teams total.  After that, the final 8 spots will be filled by the teams not yet accounted for above.  They will be placed in a league by me, based on balance of the league and owner/team situations.

ROUND FIVE (Two Leagues):

Here’s what we’re doing…I’ve made up 78 possible teams that we can use in this round – 39 N.L. and 39 A.L.  Obviously, the teams that have been around longer have more selections.  I took the best seasons of each franchise and made up these teams with twelve seasons each – in chronological order.  Whichever team you pick, your roster will be made up of players from those twelve seasons.  You must have at least two players from each season in your list.  Your twenty-fifth player will be from the same franchise you’re using and it can come from any of the seasons that lies between your earliest and latest season.  For example, if you have the GIANTS squad that runs from 1903 to 1914, you must have a minimum of two players from each of those seasons in that twelve-year span.  Your 25th player can come from any of those twelve seasons.  If you took the DODGERS squad that runs from 1901 to 1942, your 25th player can come from any of the seasons between 1901 and 1942.

NO:  Clones – Should Make This Round Interesting.
NO:  Injuries – They’ll Be Turned Off.

You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.

CAP – $120M

Stadium – You must use a park that your franchise called home during your team’s time-span.

Who Moves On?
Once Round FIVE is complete, the top 10 teams (according to Wins – first tie-break will be how far a team goes in the playoffs and second tie-break will be the number of Home wins) from each league will automatically earn a berth in Round SIX.  That’s 20 teams for 24 spots.  The final four teams will come from the best of the other 28 teams across the two leagues.  Again, this will give everyone something to keep playing for, even if your team isn’t very competitive in your division or for the wildcard.
