212 plus plays Topic

Goal was 200 plus plays/100 wins. With 199 plus plays in 144 games, should finish w/ between 220 and 230. Need to finish 12-6 for 100 wins. 06gsp is the only owner I've seen w/ 200/100, but I'm sure there have been many others.

Range Warriors is a better team than Range Rovers. I upgraded the pitching (Patsy Flaherty to Kevin Brown, added George Smith in long relief) and put them in a pitcher's park, which is the graveyard of plus plays. So far only 99 plus plays in 90 games so 200 will be a big stretch.

The team finished with 205+ plays and an 84-78 record at a $120M cap. Looking at the efforts of other teams here, this team was clearly lower in the OF because the pitching staff threw a lot of groundballs. I can't explain why Speaker and Erstad didn't perform better when playing their other position. Luck does definitely play a role.

The biggest learning was the impact of bad pitching on this effort. The similar team that is currently playing in the $100M cap Arms Race league has 139 + plays in 118 games, on pace for 191. The lineup in that league has Dawson/Carey/Terry replacing Speaker/Cameron/Erstad. But, the pitching is so strong that offense is way down by design which means fewer balls eligible for + plays.

Goal was 100 wins, 200 plus plays. Coasted to 231 plus plays, fell a little short w/ 97 wins. Won the division, lost in 5 games in the LCS.

Well 3 days in and we're 3-0 at home, and 1-5 on the road. We've been shut out a mind scratching 4 times on the road out of 6 games.

The team is 27-14 right now...13-3 at home, 14-11 on the road. Only 37+ plays through 41 games.

Surprised you don't have more + plays with that roster, metsmaniac2. Hope you're in a hitters' park to maximize your balls in play. If you're in a pitchers' park you may win more games but you won't do anything special in the + play category.

Yup, the team plays in Hilltop. We're very good at home but only a .500 team on the road and seem to struggle in pitchers parks.

Thanks for posting. I probably have come across this once upon a time, but either didn't read it or completely forgot about it.

Looks like my next open league team will be an attempt to test this theory.
Did you ever try to test this? I would have assumed like most that lower strikeouts provided more opportunities for the plus plays, so I started tinkering with a roster for the Golden Gloves league on that assumption. But reading this now I'm thinking it doesn't matter at all.

More balls in play would seem to provide more chances for your fielders. We're gonna find out some answers...

When I first started playing, I won my only championship in my first or second try(under a different player name)...Now that I know more about how the game works, I over analyze everything and am constantly getting shellacked...This game seems more about algebra or trigonometry than baseball...Should have listened to my parents years ago...Those subjects in school would come in handy in the future...

We’ll back to the drawing board...Great thread fellas...

A few of us reached 170 in Skunk's $120M Quick Start league. Reason for hope of hitting that 200 rung on the ladder...
