Preseason and fatigue Topic

I play the hell out of my prospects.  Some get in excess of 60 AB.  I don't care it they're fatigued during the minor league season.   That's why there are "inactive" lists.

In terms of prospect development, I know that the more ABs the get the more they develop (all other things like make-up aside). Is it advisable to play your best prospects a lot in Spring Training? Other than injury issues and possibly becoming more fatigued later down the road if they are positional players, is there any reason not to do this? Do Spring Training ABs have less of an impact on prospect development than in-season ones? I've always played my ML positional starters for 3-5 games and given my starting 5 a single start and then brought in my prospects just to see how they do against ML-ish talent and to help development.
At-bats are at-bats.  Play the sh*t out of your prospects.

Does not playing at 100% energy have an effect on prospect development? Does playing a prospect at say 88% only run the risk of them getting injured? Are 500AB's at 98-100% better than 600 at 80-85%?

Inactive list.

The 600 are better. Except he might not get there if he's hurt from playing fatigued.

Interesting, it's sort of risk/reward in that sense then. I'm curious as to how much 50-10 more AB's really help development. I may have been treating my prospects to nicely so far in my HBD career. I need to take a page out of the Chinese Olympic team handbook - rest is for the weak.

It depends on how you feel about development.  I think more AB/IP are good.    I used to set "goals" for position players, 1500 minor league AB before BL action, as I felt 3 1/2 regular seasons(which would be about 1500 AB) were necessary.   Getting some of those in ST and the minor league playoffs would make him available for BL action earlier.

UPDATE:  We are getting close to seeing previous seasons pitch totals and we are at game 126.  I *ALMOST* haven't touched my rotation and everyone is cruising along great.  Right now 4 of my pitchers are at 100% and the fifth is the guy that just threw.

I still don't think Spring training affects the total number of pitches that can be thrown in a season.
8/21/2012 9:45 AM
Why does Pall have two less starts than Olivares if you haven't touched your rotation?
8/21/2012 9:47 AM
He's the starter of this next game.  So it is just one start.  I guess I shuffled him once in order to keep him at 100%.  I edited it for you.
8/21/2012 10:07 AM
I had Olivares start one game in his place.  I believe all I did was skip his spot in the rotation.
8/21/2012 10:09 AM
Have you tracked their recovery rate per start from the beginning of the season to this point of the season?

Some have said that fatigue recovery slows down as the season progresses.  I challenge that.  Would like to see some numbers if you have them.
