The Challenge - Wisconsin-Platteville Topic

While it was a relatively weak recruiting class, it still came in a surprising #32, I was expecting somewhere between 40-50.  As I predicted at this time last season, my overall ranking came in between 10-15 at #13.  If I had better recruiting the past two seasons and more playoff games, i would expect to be deep in the top 10 next season, but at this point I just hope I'm in the top 10 at this time next season.

From here on out is where the improvement will slow down.  There'a a huge difference between top 5 and top 10 and sometimes even between #1 and #2.  The easy work is done, now the real work to reach the top begins.

Full roster from GUESS.  For the first time the roster has no SIMs.  You can see a clear pattern as player class rank improves as they become more senior.  The proper players at this level age like a fine wine.  They are passing other teams recruits due to the proper core/pot/we balance when recruited.  The SRs and JR*s on the roster were brought in when the full roster was ranked 150 and coming off a 6-7 record and were ranked #52, yet they now lead a top 15 roster.

The Challenge has been officially conceded so i get to collect some gift certificates, Merry Christmas to me!  I finished this season of The Challenge as expected.  My offense hasn't really performed yet but my defense has carried the team so far.  Expectations are to win a first CC and move to at least the second round of the playoffs.  Both look realistic to me at this point.  Next season is when I expect to start producing at NC caliber, so I'm just hoping for a few games of extra growth this season to help set that up.  Hopefully my last two subpar recruiting classes can be covered up with some extended postseason play.

We can agree to disagree on this statement ;)

The regular season ended as expected and I wound up winning the CC, even though choochoo and I disagreed on my expectations.  I'm expecting to have two playoff games, everything else will be gravy since it looks like I've been dropped in a particularly tough bracket.  But with 2+ games, I think I'll set myself up well for next season and help me cover up two subpar recruiting classes.  Hopefully, it will also give me a vision bump so I can spend more of my resources on better players.  As it stands, I'm pretty happy with the first full team of my own recruits and, considering the vision when I started recruiting, they seem to stack up fairly well with the elites of the world.

Wow, the team went on a great run and we won the NC.  This was totally unexpected with no SR* on the roster.  I thought I'd be competitive with the top teams, but I didn't think I could make a serious run until next season with 1 SR* (see my early posts about why there is only one next season) and probably not even til the season after that when I will have the full complement of 3 SR*.  This is the quickest I have ever won a NC starting with a roster full of SIMs.

It looks like the offensive gameplan adjustments two seasons ago and the defensive gameplan adjustments last season really helped.  The team finished highly ranked on both sides of the ball.  But, it's still too early to have any conclusive answers since there have been significant talent upgrades to the team as I replaced SIMs with my own recruits every season.  I probably won't have a definitive answer until my vision has also stabilized since the talent I can recruit should continue to improve along with my record.

I'm not sure if I'll continue updating this thread going forward.  The Challenge has ended and I've already hit the pinnacle with an NC.  There's not much else I can show about building a team.  So this may be my final entry.  I hope anyone who followed this leaned something.
