I think the left is just giving up on you. Nothing slam dunk at all.

People call out Fox because it is ridiculous. Maher is also ridiculous and gets called out all the time. SNL isn't political. Colbert is satire. Stewart is liberal but he argues in good faith and has conservative guests on his show all the time.

1, I was a kid in the 90's. Everyone I knew played soccer.

2. Soccer isn't very fun to watch. But it is fun to play.

3. I'm liberal and I love NFL and college football. So do all of my liberal friends. We also played football in high school when we got tired of soccer. (And by "got tired of," I definitely mean we weren't nearly good enough to keep playing at the high school level.)

4. Education in American really has nothing to do with soccer. Most kids play in neighborhood rec leagues.

1 Maybe we should put it in the late 80s and early 90s. There was very little soccer back then.

2 So a game that no one enjoys watching is popular becuase it is fun to play? And how did they discover this? And what makes it fun to play. Americans are fatter than ever, and out of all the main team sports soccer is the least fat friendly.

3 So you have never heard a liberal make the point that organized team football is a negative for children? That soccer is a more global and community sport?

4 I see kids in school leagues, but you might be right on that one. Still community organizing is also a more liberal genre.
1. It was the early 90s. My older brother and his friends all played soccer as kids in the 80s. My parents are and have always been conservative (my dad still listens to Rush Limbaugh).

2. Have you ever watched soccer? Shoot me in the ******* face. It's boring. But running around with your friends playing soccer is a lot of fun, especially when you're a kid.

3. Tackle football is bad for kids. That's not a political statement. That's a medical one. Kids are not mini-adults. Their skeletons, skulls, muscles, and brains are not fully developed and are more vulnerable to physical trauma.

4. Judging by the soccer moms in my son's soccer league, community rec soccer leagues are inhabited almost exclusively by well off, suburban, Christian, stay at home moms with mini-vans and husbands who are the VP of this and director of that.

1 Still dont believe that there was a lot of soccer.

2 How do kids start playing soccer. someone tells them to. If no one wathces it they wouldnt start playing it.

3 Pee Wee football is a great developer of solid adults.

4 Soccer is now the trendy thing so the Soccer Moms dominate.

This isnt about soccer is bad or there is some grand scheme. Just that it started from left wing begginings.

Early 90s... does anyone remember anything big involving soccer and this country that happened in the early 90s?

The best attendance ever at a World Cup.....hosted by The good ole red, white, and blue.

I played school soccer in ES and MS in the 1960s. Seeds of socialism planted early I guess.

"Still community organizing is also a more liberal genre."

That might be my favorite one.  Newsflash swamp: youth sports in this country are almost entirely community/private leagues under the umbrella of a larger organization.  (Little League, Pop Warner, etc.)  Are they all out of the "liberal genre" too?  Very few school systems that I'm aware of have any organized sports programs until middle school/junior high.  And I doubt very many schools ever went out and started a soccer team to try and create interest where none previously existing.  Youth soccer participation has doubled in the US since 1990 (although 2 million kids were already playing then, hardly "nobody")  So, you obviously have thriving youth programs all across the country in places where they didn't exist before.  Those kids get to middle/high school, and don't have a school team.  Parents push for it, eventually it gets added, and is populated by kids who were already playing the sport.  Exactly what happened in my town when I grew up, a town which is as red as red can be.

Youth soccer came to my town in the mid-late 70s.   Can't remember if it was 8th-9th grade for me.   Either way, it's been around for a long time.   Not sure how many HS around here have it now but, for the longest time, it was only the private schools.

Will I lose brain cells if I read back in this thread to try to figure out why swamp appears to believe that youth soccer is yet another insidious left-wing conspiracy?

I think there's only one other swamp post about it in this thread that hasn't been quoted on this page.

While he's over the top crazy, there is usually a shred of legitimacy in what he posts.

The left is supposedly the non-violent, "feel good" side of the fence.
The right is supposedly the violent, "losers are losers" side of the fence.

Soccer is supposed to be a non-contact, "one-nil" game.
Football is supposed to be a violent, "stomp their throat when they're down" game.

If you combine those things, you can see why crazies like swamp think soccer is a lefty revolution.

As for me, I'd blame the left for replacing dodgeball with yoga in elementary school.   There was nothing like a big rubber ball off the head to make your point when you're 7.

Where does baseball fit on swamp's political scale?  I need to know if I'm raising my kids properly.

Basketball and snowboarding, too.

Baseball, beanballs - righty.
Basketball, hard fouls and 160-2 HS scores - righty
Snowboarding,******* doing goofy foot fakies - lefty
