They didn't pay 18% in federal taxes.  Social Securty payroll tax is 4.2% in 2011 and 2012, and Medicare payroll tax is 1.45%.  That's 5.65%, not 18%.

Try getting your facts straight instead of trying to make a distorted argument.

That the president shouldn't worry about half our population? Interesting take.
As Tec said he was talking about not worrying about getting their vote, and he is dead on.

Interesting that the left is all over the TV trying to twist this to make it sound exactly like you did.  Congrats for trumpeting the dems agenda of distortion.

You guys seriously have no qualms blatantly distorting anything for political advantage?

Yet they blast the other side for doing exactly the same thing.

I worry anytime I hear my elected leader saying they don't have to worry about half the population, no matter the context or the party affiliate.

Just like you guys are trumpeting the 47 percent Pay no taxes line. We all know that's not true.
Maybe you should spend a little time learning how to separate reality from propaganda before you decide where your worries should go.

MSNBC confirmed that number. The Fox news of the left, confirmed it for crying out loud.

And still you would rather make it into something it isn't? You are perfectly fine with taking a statement made concerning the likelihood of swaying a group of voters and twisting it to sound like he is not worried about their general welfare?

"No matter the context"? REALLY?

Context is very important for critical thinking..

From TaxVox:

So who are these folks who pay no federal income taxes? Mostly, they are people who don’t make very much money. Many are elderly: Think a widow living only on Social Security benefits. Others are parents earning less than $20,000. Only about 5 percent are non-elderly households making more than $20,000

It is no accident, btw, that the number of people not paying income tax was so high in 2009. You may have noticed that we’ve had a recession lately. And here is a powerful insight: When people’s incomes decline so too does their income tax (at least most of the time).  At the same time, many working families have benefited from temporary tax cuts aimed at boosting the economy, and as a result some did not pay income taxes last year. As the economy improves and those tax cuts expire, it should also be no surprise that the share of people who don't pay income taxes will likely shrink from half last year to less than 40 percent by 2012.

The 47% percent thing is ridiculous. They don't pay federal income tax but all of them pay sales taxes, almost all pay medicare/SS, and a lot pay state income tax.

Also, the data shows that poor people vote in much lower proportion than the rest of the population. Catering to people on welfare isn't a great election strategy.

And this is wrong?   Should he be villified for speaking the truth?

Simple fact of the matter is that the world has changed.   There was a time when kids couldn't wait to cut the umbilical cord, move out and experience the world without someone overseeing their every move.   Now kids go to college and move back in with their parents while waiting for them to die so they can have a house.

Obama has extended this concept to government dependency.   You don't have to get out and make your place in the world.   The government with cloth and feed you.  Provide you a place to stay.   The kids who moved back in with momma are comfortable with that set-up.   Why would they vote for someone who says "Get out and earn your spot in the world"?

Everything he said was true.
And of the 47% who pay no federal income tax (they do pay other federal taxes however), guess who pushed the legislation and signed the bills that made it so those 47% did not have to pay any federal income tax...can you guess? Dare you guess?

Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.  So why ***** about people not paying federal income taxes when that is something that Reagan and Bush both pushed for?

Romney said nothing about taxes.

What he said was that there are a number of people in this counry who feel that they have an inalienable right for the government to provide them entitlements, and these are the folks who will blindly vote for Obama because he's enabling that way of thinking.

Other than the number he used (47%, which seems unrealistically high), he's absolutely correct.  There are a number of people who he'll never be able to sway to even consider voting for him merely because they would never willing give up their seat on the gravy train that Obama promises.

47% of Americans live in a household with someone who receives gov't assistance.   That doesn't mean 47% of Americans are receiving GA, it just means they either do or live with someone who does.

Is it wrong? You mean, intentionally and cartoonishly mischaracterizing those aren't backing you? Yes.

Uncleal's lefty 2b argument was less idiotic than this ****.
