Ripping off ESPN -> Trout vs Cabrera MVP Topic

jtpops seems to think that Trout was moved to LF late in games.   Does his team even think he's GG quality?
True or no?

I think it is true that he moved to left in some games, taking Trumbo off the field. Probably because (in a small sample size) Bourjos is one of the few people on the planet better at CF than Trout. Adam Jones is not one of those few people.

Could you be the best fielding starter at your position (which would mean they're GG-quality) and have a defensive replacement that's better? I'm sure its possible.

In your opinion, right?

Today's the day!  Any final thoughts?

Sure, quoting Keith Law, "Any rational analysis of the two players' seasons puts Trout comfortably ahead of Cabrera, as Cabrera's slight edge on offense (boosted by a better park and weaker competition) can't touch Trout's huge advantages in baserunning and defense."

I live in Michigan and I'm not even a Tigers fan, but that rationale is ridiculous...I can't believe that the Triple Crown supposedly isn't a slam dunk for MVP...Cabrera wins rather easily on BPI number as well.

Well, the rational is both players provided roughly the same offensive value and Trout was much better defensively and on the bases.

How/why is baserunning looked at separately...it's offense, include it...moreover, it's 2 categories SB and CS...you can say what you want about GIDP, but that's an uncontrollable circumstance.  Secondly, when the hell as anyone ever won an MVP in the MLB based on defense?  That's what Gold Gloves are for...box 'em up...

You can include baserunning in with offense if you want...but that tilts offense in Trout's direction since the players were so close without it.

Defense is a significant part of a player's value. It counts.

And offense is what silver sluggers are for.

The position you play, and how well you play it, is very important.  When Pedroia won was he the best offensive player in the league? He wasn't the best on his own team.  Pudge, Tejada, Larkin, etc....there are so many examples.

My vote would go to Trout but I will be super shocked if Cabrera doesn't win.  I'm interested in seeing where these guys are listed on ballots where the other is given the #1 vote.  I heard Trout wasn't even listed on 10 ROY ballots - will those that want one to win move the other far down or off their ballot?

Trout was unanimous ROY. He was listed first on all 28 ballots.
