How/why is baserunning looked at separately...it's offense, include it...moreover, it's 2 categories SB and CS...you can say what you want about GIDP, but that's an uncontrollable circumstance.  Secondly, when the hell as anyone ever won an MVP in the MLB based on defense?  That's what Gold Gloves are for...box 'em up...
And offense is what silver sluggers are for.

The position you play, and how well you play it, is very important.  When Pedroia won was he the best offensive player in the league? He wasn't the best on his own team.  Pudge, Tejada, Larkin, etc....there are so many examples.
And my question...WAR, what is it good for? ;)

Trout was unanimous ROY. He was listed first on all 28 ballots.
That was stupid - my fault.  There are "Internet Baseball Awards" and he was not listed on 10 MVP ballots there.  Cabrera was not on 11.  But there were 650+ votes and these are internet awards so I guess I shouldn't be surprised when stuff like that happens there.

Just want to make sure I got this right - in the 377 atbats where Mike Trout made an out, if he made 3 of those hits, then he'd be the MVP?
11/15/2012 4:17 PM
The fact that he had 377 AB should probably tell you what you need to know about Trout and the MVP.

377 AB where he made an out, not 377 AB total.

Oh, nevermind.

No, like I said, with my BPI number which is a complex, centralized offensive number that includes baserunning (SB-CS), Cabrera wins over Trout, it's unbiased and defense doesn't matter...so based on my numbers Cabrera wins, and I hate the Tigers.

Would Cabrera's season be less valuable if Kemp had won the triple crown last year?

You can argue Cabrera is better offensively.  I'd probably agree with you.  But defense matters.

Clearly, I disagree with the result.

One writer even listed Trout third on his ballot. Oh well, a few more years of darkness and then the dinosaurs will all be gone.

It's definitely coming down to an "old school / new school" debate when it comes to evaulating stats and value.
This.
