A-Rod: Satan? Topic

I am glad that Ibanez rescued the Yanks last night (someone had to) but Girardi magnified the problem by leaving Arod in the 3 spot.  He OBVIOUSLY had doubts about him going into the game, and would not have pinch hit for him if he did not think he could get the job done.  It all worked out, but he would have taken some pressure of Rodriguez by batting him 5th or 6th.  Sure, he would still have been booed if he failed, but I think it was made worse because 3rd is the premium lineup spot.

Most hitters fail in big moments.  But you remember A-Rod's more than others.  When he succeeds, we forget about it.  Up 3-0, he had the spotlight.  He homered.

Did you even watch the 2004 ALCS?  Particularly games 6 and 7?  Did you see anything but utter hopelessness on ARod's face in those games?

I've already said that losing the series was a team effort.  What ARod did in games 1-4 was irrelevant in games 5-7.  But when it mattered the most, he looked the worst.  Deer in the headlights, lost look in his eyes.

Yes, I watched the entire playoffs.  Which included him dominating the Twins.  I don't remember thinking he looked scared in the last few games, but at the end it was clear he was starting to slump.

If A-Rod dominated Game 5 or 6, they made the World Series, and then they lost to the Cardinals with A-Rod struggling, you'd probably be all over him then too.  He can't win with most Yankee fans.

EDIT: I only watched the first couple innings of Game 7 closely.

Is it possible Jeter has a lot to do with this? Let's face it...Jeter is a god in NY. First of all, if fans perceived ARod as a threat to Jeter when he arrived in NY (and he clearly would have been the better SS), fans are not going to react too kindly to him. As well, Jeter has always given the impression he doesn't like ARod. He's never come out and said anything derogatory, but you could tell, especially early on, that Jeter was trying to flex his muscles and let ARod know it was his clubhouse and his city.

I remember a play in '04 or '05 where someone popped a ball up to 3B. ARod didn't even have to move, he was camped right under it. All of a sudden, Jeter starts drifting all the way over from SS, calls it at the last minute, bumps into ARod and the ball drops. Ball hit ARod's glove so he gets the error, crowd boos, Jeter gives ARod a blatant nasty-*** look on the field.

I do find it incredibly ironic that ARod is seen as the self-serving one when everything Jeter does comes off as self-serving. Jeter is a phenomenal baseball player, but I will never see him as a selfless, "team" guy.

I don't see his problems as any big mystery.  He is only human.  If you take into account how much money he makes, who he plays for, the expectations the fans have, the expectations of his teammates and coaches, the way the press attacks him over and over.....almost NO human could perform under that kind of pressure.  Do I feel sorry for him?  NO.  MLB is a big boy's league.  He gets more money than all of us will probably make combined in our lifetime(s).

Just saying though....it's a case study in human frailty and what pressure can do to a person's psyche.

You're a 'tard.
Ya, God forbid anyone say anything bad about your wife.

No, it's just a stupid thing to say.

Everybody loved, or tolerated, A-Rod until he started to fail.   They say you have to earn your pinstripes.   He didn't.

Jeter carries a lot of weight in NY, by your own admission. One word from him would get a lot of people off ARod's back. It's never happened in 8 years. That says a lot, especially when he's your team captain.
