Qualifying Offers Topic

Thanks for clarifying the compensation thing - I didn't phrase that well in my initial post.

I would like qualifying offers to at least be position-dependent.  How many relief pitchers actually make $13.3 million?  To require that size offer to get compensation for even a top-10 closer seems just silly.

I'm surprised the number is that high to begin with. If that's an average of the top 125 players, that's a lot of players making over $10mil+ across the league.

To aquire the 15th pick in the drafft becuase you lost a closer just seems silly.

13 players made at least $20 million this year.  A-Rod alone pulls up a bunch of sub-$10 million contracts to $13.3.

The owners like the compensation so that teams can build multiple ways. You can spend on FAs or you can let em walk and get draft picks. The Players like the new system because there were several guys who felt that they were not being signed because of the compensation. Now its a best of both worlds for both parties.
