Wannabe XLVII - Bat Out Of Hell (Need 1) Topic

Wannabe XLVII - Bat Out Of Hell

Welcome to the largest team blacklist in the entire universe!

We are winding up our 46th season and it's time to pick teams for the 47th go-around. I'll just post the rules we've used for the first 46 seasons and we'll go on from there. Everyone who was in Season XLVI is guaranteed a spot this time if they want to stay. Anyone who wants to get on the wait-list can just leave their name and we'll take them as spots open up. First come, first served (although owners with 5 or more previous seasons in wannabe are bumped to the front of the waitlist). It's always a fun league with a lot of league wide banter.

* $100 million cap
* NO WW
* NO AAA
* No Trades

2012 teams will be available this time, based on current rosters.

Pick any team from any year. (For this season we've blacklisted the teams used in seasons 1 through 46. I'll post a list of those teams here in the forum.) Get the roster from www.baseball-reference.com and use anyone who played for your team that year. You can use any season of their career as long as they made at least 1 appearance for your team during the year you picked. Simple enough, right? I think everyone has this figured out by now, but if you don't, just ask.

Playing out of position is OK at your own peril.

NO AAA. If you're playing with the '75 Reds, then use the players on that team, not some imaginary players. Make sure you draft enough innings pitched and enough at-bats per position.

You can pick any $200K player from any year in your franchise history. It doesn't matter if you have a backup available from your year or not. If you want a $200K player, take one. Actually, you can even take a $250K player if you want. Anyone who comes up during the $200K + or - $50K search is OK with me. If there isn't a $200K guy available, you can use the cheapest you can find. If you pick the Rockies, Diamondbacks, Devil Rays, or Marlins, you can use all 4 of those teams for your $200K pool. If you have any questions about this, just ask.

(With the salary changes, it may be tougher to find $200K players for some teams. If it becomes a problem, we'll work something out.)

NO CLONES.

If you pick an old-time team that only had 7 pitchers, fill the other slots with $200K's from your franchise history. You probably won't need their innings anyway and you can use them as mop-ups.

Only 1 team per owner. I want to give everyone a chance if they want to play.

Use the stadium your team played in. If it's not available, then use another one in the same city or a reasonable alternative.

Name your team anything you want.

Bust some chops in the forum. If you sweep me, feel free to tell me how much my team sucks and how great your team is. And laugh it off when someone does the same to you.

Only one person can have a specific team and season. The first one to grab the '61 Yankees gets them. The next Yankee fan has to settle for the '27 team or whatever their other favorite is. I don't care how many Yankee teams are in the league as long as each one is a different season.

Head2Head is fine with me as long as it's the next game on the schedule. I don't want anyone jumping ahead. There will be NO Head2Head after game #120. (Since H2H is now free to everyone, I'm making a slight change here. Instead of just the next game, you can play the next full series H2H if you want. Just don't jump ahead of the schedule, and still NO H2H after game #120.)

My guess is that divisions will be along time lines, but I don't have any real preference. In the first 43 leagues, we've used time lines for the divisions, but we're flexible. If you want to be in a division with someone else, we'll work it out.

Whatever I forgot to include I'll throw in later. Let me know if you see a problem. I know these rules are different from some of the other twist leagues, but they can work.

* Do not use the same team without at least a 5 year span between them. If someone else has the '27 Yankees, then don't use the '23-'32 Yankees. This rule is in place to have more variety in the teams we choose and the rosters. Exceptions can be made by the commissioner if he feels the rosters are different enough.

Blacklisted Teams:

These are the blacklisted teams. mfumar actually put some effort into this and organized them alphabetically and in chronological order. I know we're going to run out of teams at the rate we're going, but it's fun looking for new teams to twist. We talked about doing away with the blacklist because of the recent changes, but I think most of us want to keep it. I like seeing different teams each time around.

Winning World Series unused teams:
1903 Red Sox
1918 Red Sox
1945 Tigers
1960 Pirates
2002 Angels

What If for #50 everyone took a 100 loss team?

Or.....took a prev champ in league? One time only reuse? (til #100 anyway!)

I thought I fixed this last time, it was the 2008 Angels that won 100 games and they have been used. So, if my spreadsheet is correct, there remains only 1 100-win team. And now the 2012 Giants are another WS winner that has not been used.

We used the 24 previous WS champs in season 25, I think we should change it up
