Seriously w/ the firings? Topic

A- baseline prestige school.

Best RPI over the past 15 seasons = 78 (11 seasons ago)

Only postseason appearance in past 15 seasons = PI 1st Rd (also 11 seasons ago)

Average record over past 10 seasons: 9-17

Average RPI over past 10 seasons: 149

Total conference wins over past 10 seasons: 21 (yes, that's an average of 2/season)

Still not fired?  Seriously?

I only play in two worlds, but can't remember the last firing. Are they even firing people any more? (I'm being serious.)

i dont know, did they suspend it for some reason? like because of some new patch that screwed over coaches who were in rebuild mode?

It's worse than the first resume you posted, but the first coach shouldn't have kept his job either.  How he avoided the chopping block would be a very interesting explanation I think.

Both schools share the same A- baseline, so the firing point is somewhere between those two resumes. I agree the second is worse, but not by a whole lot. I don't know if you have to completely tank in your firing season or if a 150ish RPI will always be enough to buy you one more shot or what.

when i took UK in tark, UK went the first 6 seasons without making the post season under the previous coach. i thought they'd get fired, but instead they made the pit in season 7, and had to miss the post season twice more to get fired. somehow, at the time, we knew 7 straight seasons with no post season meant getting fired at an elite. so i asked CS what the deal was, and seble said the PIT saved him enough to buy him 2 more seasons. really? you are in your 7th season at kentucky, and a PIT saves you? somehow, i think the real coach_billyg would beg to differ (if hes sober enough, which is unlikely - now you know why i liked him so much ;)

Well, Ryrun, I suspect the coach you were talking about was Cincinnati.  Looks like he left on his own accord.  Maybe you chased him away, lol!

I think one of the main things the logic is looking for (even more than post-season appearances) is a progression of fewer wins each season. Louisville went 11, 9, 7, 2. Cincinnati never had a 4-season string of decreases in losses. I got fired once by going 15, 14, 10, 9, 8 (my next season would have been an NT appearance) at Rutgers. The logic seems to treat that as a worse history than something like 6, 7, 2, 8, 4.

I haven't been at D1 that long but looking at some of the team history I am shocked some coaches have kept their job so long. Is it the simple fact that WIS doesn't want to lose their money?

yes

Lack of D1 firing is annoying. Makes it impossible for alot of people to move up into the higher end BCS teams.

It is laughable the last three years I have been to two elite 8's and a final four with my D2 Tampa team and I can't apply for most of the jobs in D1.
