Zbrent's real point is Azocar isn't even on the ballot, and he thinks he should be.
I think it's great that they take defense into account though.
I'm all for considering defense. And if you wanted to vote for someone other than Azocar based on that being more valuable than the nearly triple crown season Azocar had, it is absolutely your right.
That said, the real point is that Azocar played a sub-par LF (and some adequate 1B) and is penalized for that, while a DH who did not hit as well (and played limited sub-par in the field) is on the ballot - Rios. The park effects for the two favor Rios, but it's not extreme (like Safeco) and wouldn't be enough to outweigh the clear hitting advantage in every category for Azocar. Rios just benefited from playing mostly DH and so not having the chance to accumulate 14 (-) plays.
