How hard is it to pull a D2 player down to D3? Topic

Playing my first season and read a little about pulldowns.

Is this hard to do and what is the strategy used to figure this out?

Pulling down players from DII is not hard and in fact it is a very smart strategy. However, just because a player is listed as DII doesn't automatically make him better than a DIII player. You must compare and evaluate because often there are some real gems in DIII that get passed over. That said, the pulldown process starts with a simple phone call to either the player or player's coach. One call is all that is needed. You will receive feedback that will tell you if you can pull down the player or not. If you do not get a reply from the player, that means NO. If you get feedback that makes reference to you being a backup option then you can pull him down. If he says stop calling that means NO. No means no chance. He will never change his mind.

Once you get the backup email, then send him 10 Scouting Visits and the schollie. Do not attempt to send HVs, CVs, or offer minutes or a start because he will reject them. You can offer those later once he is considering you. Sending 10 SVs is usually enough but sometimes you need to send more. I prefer to send additional SVs in groups of 5 but other coaches may vary. Once he is considering you, continue to recruit as normal.

Search "pulldown"  someone has a google.doc on how to do it.   It's really good.

Looked Joe and I can't find it.  Only a couple of threads on pulldown exist that I can find.

Now about drop downs,  Drop downs take a few days correct?  How do I know who to target as drop downs.  What is the range of player i need to look at?

Drop downs start like 24 hours after recruiting starts......

As for targeting, a good rule of thumb is find the highest overall rating of the "best" DIII players on your available list and then add 25.  Guys more than that don't usually drop down.   That only works for freshman though.  You can get better JUCO players than that.

Also if you called a guy and got the backup message, if he drops down at some point he will send you an email letting you know. It will be something to the effect of "I've reconsidered and I like your school after all."

Do juco's drop pretty easilly... I can see in the 480's for d3 but there are some juco guys at d2 that have or 2 years left that are in the 570's.  Is it possible that I can get guys like that or no?

Send them a call, it's the only way to find out.   Honestly, I usually send out like 50-75 calls to different players during recruiting.

Ditto what Trentonjoe said. That first round of recruiting is basically a shotgun blast of phone calls to find out which D2 players I can recruit.
