Best way to run my offense in D2? (Triangle) Topic

Been playing this game for a few years with moderate success.  Really trying to get over the hump and field a top 25 team but I keep hitting a wall.  Here is how I'm currently built ...

Triangle : 30 mins practice
Zone : 20 mins practice (usually run a 3-2)

I was taking the approach of having some outside shooters leading the way and then good rebounders underneath to clean up the mess.  No low post players.

Any suggestions on play distribution?  Do I have the right players for the Triangle?

Just from a quick glance at your team,  your PER ratings are nice but you absolutely need something down low to keep the D honest. Just a question: Why are you staggering your practice time like that? Is there any reason? Also that guy with 1 or 2 ATH rating will most likely do more harm than good and he looks to be your best PER player...You are pretty low on ATH as a whole.

No reason on the split outside of wanting my guards to know the offense faster.

How would ATH help?

ath is just about everything...it's the coefficient to all other ratings

i think the 30 minutes is a waste...i think 30 is basically the same as 25, but 20 is certainly not the same as 15

Does ATH enhance both defense and offense?

I agree with what reddyred said. You really need to have a balanced approach to your offense. I've taken a long look at your team and basically, this is what I would do. At PG i'd use Tyndall (Although, his DEF is very low. Typically, i wouldn't start a player with a DEF that low, but i use a press so maybe it's okay in a zone, idk. Plus, you were asking about the offense) with Douglas off the bench. At the 2, i'd start Ojeda and at the 3, i'd start Sant and have Davis and Carneal coming off the bench. Carneal is definitely good enough to give him some time now and it should help with the overall fatigue. I'd be giving him at least 10 minutes or so. Davis's ATH number is just too low to have starting. I like your 4 and 5 starters where they are. I'd play William and Clayton behind them. Both William and Clayton and good enough to get into the offense. Especially coming off the bench where they'll probably be facing weaker defensive players. Overall, i think you have to get your ATH and DEF numbers higher to really see a significant improvement. Plus, don't expect Martinez to improve at all. His WE is just way too low. His core numbers are fair, though, so he may be useful as a backup. I try not to recruit players with less than a 30 at WE, but there have been exceptions. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  Sounds like I have some work to do especially with ATH.  I guess it makes sense on Davis because I was expecting a much bigger year from him.  Took a flyer on Martinez as my first INTL player even though I knew he is probably a lazy turd.

Again, awesome feedback and thanks.

One more question.  How much time do you guys like to devote to team practice?  I'm at 50 minutes now and I put 25/25 instead of 30/20.

I used to do 25/20 and found that some of my guys weren't reaching and IQ of A+ by the end of their careers. So I've started experimenting with 30/20. It seems to be helping so far, but it may just be because the players I have now would have reached A+ using 25/20 anyway. idk. I'm still maxing out my players' attributes using 30/20. So i'll probably stick with it for the time being.

i do 22/22 or 22/21 usually

i think iq growth has a lot to do with gpa.
2/22/2013 12:58 PM
it definitely does, yanks

26/26 has my guys maxing out between end of jr season and game # 10 of sr season - depending upon we and gpa.

I've made some changes to my roster since I made this post.  Added better ATH overall.  Question is though, based on the team attributes now, should I still be running Triangle?  I have a lot of good athletes but my passing is not as high as it used to be.
