Garnett's 05-06 is absolutely first-round worthy (probably in the 18-24 range, I'll admit) on my board. Great Dreb%, very efficient, great assists, low turnovers and fouls for an 80 defense big man. His SF seasons are less efficient - if I'm going to take a high-usage centerpiece in the 1st round, I'd like him to be more efficient than an efg% of around 50% or so. I took Garnett in the 1st round last ODL and won my division and lost in 7 in the conference finals.
Do you consider Tim Duncan to be 1st round worthy?

He's probably right on the border between 1st/2nd. I would take Garnett over him. 06-07 Duncan is close, but bad FT shooting hurts him.

I'm amazed that Willis Reed lasted this long in a big man driven draft. The guy's a beast up front. If Lanier wasn't still available, I'd have taken him in the 2nd round with my 5th pick. He reeks havoc with his DEF90. But I'm willing to down grade to a DEF84 to get Laniers passing and clutch 3's. If it sound like I think defense win basketball games, it's because it does. Say goodbye to your high eFG% when it runs into a solid DEF team.

Willis Reed always falls because no one ever wins with him. Sometimes things like that become self-fulfilling prophecies, though - since all of the top owners (who win championships) avoid him, he usually goes to not-as-good owners.

That SOB stopped my Championship Jabbar team from getting back-to-back rings in the ATBA prog league. Then proceeds to go BTB...to top it off Creigel owned the team!!! Just shoot me!!!

I'll take 55% fg over 53% fg... screw ft%.

Thanks for the Billups info ash, that makes sense with the ast% and uptempo bump. Maybe the Lucas 11.1 ast% helps give him a bump. Also Lucas is a guy that has a 16.5 usage% but took 1007 shots in RL, clearly his RL shots are very high for a guy on that usage tier. The way I understand the individual penalty is that RL shots are compared to sim shots, so: (1) the low usage % keeps the # of Lucas shots down, even when running uptempo and (2) his RL shots are so high that he does not generally hit the indiv penalty. Put enough assists and usage around him in uptempo and he will both approach his RL shots AND give you 58-60% efg. Yea, the 50D is low, but as long as the team D is in the 60-70 range his D is not too much of a liability.

Boards are also tricky, but I've seen him hit 13.0 or a little higher in both the ODL and 52 mill every time I've played. I can't explain why he out rebounds players like Mutumbo and Wallace who have better advanced stats, but that may all go back to how the individual teams are constructed. All I really know is that if tar has him then watch out, so keeping him away from tar in this league was a priority for me.

It's exactly why.

I think that Duncan and Garnett (not counting Garnett's 100% SF seasons) are basically equivalent in this league.  Also, McHale and Brand have seasons that are comparable to some Garnett seasons.

McHale is very underrated.

That Brand year is crazy. Definite was on my radar.

1. jethroeg - Wilt Chamberlain, Kevin Johnson, Willis Reed,

KJ is a nice addition to Wilt if the right KJ is used.  They will help each other be better.  I'm still low on Willis Reed.  He just doesn't do enough of anything to stand out enough and be a pick higher than the 4th round.  Better offensive fours were available.  Better rebounding fours were available.

2. seapilots -
Lebron James, Larry Nance, Gerald Wallace,

Well, this team has scary defense, solid offense and solid possession control.  The shoe has to drop at some point... not many big guys left that can defend and board well.

3. scudmissle - Michael Jordan, Donyell Marshall, Kevin Love,

Marshall's a nice compliment to Jordan... and I love the love pick.  You got 3s coming from your 3 & 4, good rebounds all around... some will say Love is too weak of defender, but those people are silly.  Scary good start.  You've got all the usage you'll ever need, so that's fantastic going into the 4th & 5th where you can focus on specialists.

4. banditone - Moses Malone, Paul Pierce, Spencer Haywood,

I like Malone & Pierce.  Great combination there.  I'm still not a fan of Haywood.  You've got good board presence, at least!

5. xxevilivexx -
Dennis Rodman, Dikembe Mutombo,

already exhausted this.

6. mikee1-
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, Horace Grant,

Oscar was pure thievery... as was Horace.  You've got good board control, good defense and excellent offense.  Scary squad so far!

7. 98average -
Dwight Howard, Elton Brand, Mookie Blaylock,

Another defensively focused squad... I feel like Brand hurts Howard offensively, but you do have nice defense and nice board control.  Not a fan of Mookie anymore, though he does bring alot of excellent things to the table.

8. dh555 -
Dwayne Wade, Bill Walton, Mel Daniels,

Nice compliments to Wade.  I'd have liked to have seen a higher fg% guy instead of Walton or Daniels... and there was a great one still out there.  Still a formidable triom, but your offense does nothing to scare me.

9. coachcroft -
Shaquille O'Neal, Brent Barry, Manu Ginobili,

Kinda early for Barry, but seeing as how Ginobili was still there, the gamble paid off.  I love the offensive synergy here.  Good back court rebounding, too.  Need to see some monsters up front though to compete with some of the squads here.  Gonna get to the line a ton, too.

10. theyard2 - Karl Malone, Robert Parish, James Harden,

Loved mailman... love Harden.  Parish is always a good choice, but I liked several other guys better for this squad.  You need a board hoarding monster at the 3.  Offensively, this team is set... defensively, it's so-so.  You're losing the possession battle, though.

11ncmusician- Charles Barkley, Chauncey Billups, Serge Ibaka,

Chuck is always nice... gives you board control and some powerful efg%.  Chauncey helps in the possession battle with his incredibly low turnover percentage.  Nice outside to Chuck's inside.  Both get to the line a ton and Billups hardly ever fouls anyone.  Ibaka can cover Chuck's man, and since Ibaka is 100% at SF, you can play chuck at pf, where he is 100%.  Only issue I begin to worry about is rebounds... as Ibaka & Chuck are both oreb% heavy without much on the defensive end and Billups doesn't help at all.  Need a banger at the 5 and a good rebounding guard... but overall a scary good squad.

Ash, I love the perspective, and maybe I should be scared to ask, but my squad hasnt had a chance to receive your thoughts. I certainly would appreciate it, good or bad.

17. jhsukow - Larry Bird, Deron Williams, Swen Nater,

depending on what you do with Bird, I really like this squad or feel merely bleh about it.  Williams & Bird are a nice tandem... really like them as a back court.  But nobody ever seems to have the balls to do put Bird at SG except dman... who dominated a theme league doing it... but I digress.  The only way I like Bird at the 3 is if you have at least one guard with alot of oreb%.  I'm a big fan of Nater, and as long as you get a decent defender to cover him, he's gold in this cap.  D-Will is an incredible PG in this league, giving you everything you want at the position:  3s, efficient scoring, good assists, defense... gotta love it.  Really looking forward to seeing how you flesh out the team.

Can't just ignore FT%, even if most guys don't reach their RL totals. Difference between 81% ft and 63% ft over 300 FTA is 54 points, difference between 55% and 53% fg over 1200 FGA is only 48 points.
