I won a WS and he was the keystone of my offense. Every player DOES NOT have to be a SS you can OPS .950. It's that sort of belief that leads to tanking. I GOTTA HAVE NINE TOP 5 DRAFT PICKS AND ELEVEN 30M IFA TO WIN!!!!!
In the year you won it all, you had 6 guys hit 20 or more HR (another 2 finished with 19). You had 6 guys drive in 70 or more (another guy had 69). You had 6 guys score 70 or more runs. Your team BA was .273. You had a balanced lineup, and Gandarillas was one of your better hitters in that balanced lineup.
You say keystone like he was the McGwire of the 1999 Cards. He was not a stoundout performer, he was one of the many contributors to a solid offense.
You are right, every player does not have to be a SS with an OPS of .950, which is why I dont tank, and look for supporting casts like Gandarillas and some of the other guys mentioned when drafting 24-32.
I know you are not quoting me with the last caps lock, but I will state my opinion on what you need to win:
1 stud SP, 1 franchise hitter (an every day C/SS/3B/CF that plays good defense and smashes), 1 quality RP (someone who can go out and get you 80-100 ip of 2ish era). and 22 guys who can contribute something to the BL level. I choose to go after impact players in the IFA, knowing full well that the guys I am getting at 24-32 will not be the face of my franchise. I expect them to contribute, on good years they will make AS teams, but they will never be the face of my franchise.
