Why should it not be legal for the Feds to define marriage?
That's a power granted to the states in the constitution.

Where is marriage mentioned in the Constitution?

I think he's making up **** again.

Like when he claimed the accepted definition of marriage was redefined in 1967.    Or when he claimed the definition of marriage has always been two adults.

It's not, which is why it's left to the states and not the Feds.

The constitution defines federal powers.

Sad to me that other Republicans don't even know what's in the Constitution....
Tenth Amendment:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
You said it yourself, marriage isn't mentioned in the constitution.

Is defining marriage a "power"?

And I'm not a Republican.  I'm not registered with any party, never have been.

If it's left to the state, why the **** are the Feds meddling with marriage laws?    Now and in 1967?

I would accuse you of playing dumb but I don't think you're playing.

DOMA is likely to be eliminated by SCOTUS for this exact reason.

In 1967, SCOTUS ruled that laws prohibiting interracial marriage violated the 14th amendment. State laws can't violate the constitution.

If I'm not mistaken, the 14th amendment **** on Native Americans in that they were not offered "equal rights".      If I'm correct, how ******* valid should that amendment be?

The whole purpose of it was to ensure "equal rights" yet it was discriminatory.

Which goes back to my previous statement of "This country was built on discriminatory laws."
6/15/2013 5:52 PM
And that's your justification for continuing to promote disciminatory laws?

Yes.

And you don't have to register with a party to obviously affiliate with it.

My "justification" has been that the definition of "marriage" has never been altered from it's original, accepted meaning in the history of the United States of America.

I'm fine with "civil union" having the same benefits/pitfalls of "marriage".

IMO, that resolves the entire issue.  Traditionalists/religious folk keep their "sanctity of marriage" and the homosexuals get equal billing, so to speak.
