This is basically summerfields franchise blend.
That was my thinking when I drafted my team (the first time), but no. It's actually
quite different. To use your example, yes you could draft Campaneris with A's pitching, but he could only play at C. Another example: If I have Pirates as my OF, I could draft 1901 Honus Wagner because he has OF eligibility, but he cannot play in a game anywhere other than in OF. Basically, any player with decent fielding at more than one position is going to be vastly overpriced for this league. If you like to pinch-hit/pinch-run a lot, you're going to have to be careful to have eligible players available when your team goes back into the field. I have no idea how this will be enforced, especially in simmed games, when Sparky will use primary positions to determine who subs in where defensively. If Sparky puts Campaneris or Wagner (using the above examples) at SS, we have a forfeit.
The rules need to be clairified before we draft teams or people are going to be forfeiting a whole bunch of games, or we'll all be playing under our own interpretation of the rules. Here's how I understand it (keymaster, please correct me where I have it wrong):
- Each franchise will make up one group of OF, IF, or Battery (P-C).
- A player/season
must have a fielding rating at your franchise's position to be drafted.
- A player
may only play in a game at his franchise's position, regardless of his fielding ratings.
