I'm picking by team design, not most expensive guy left also. I count 12 superstars more or less, then about 40 good solid players. I see those 40 as equivalent and choose wrt my design needs. I bump Stockton & Nance up the draft quite a bit wrt to salery position. If you draft BPA here w/o a design plan your toast.

Smokey, there is no doubt that Bird, Barkley, and The Mailman forced my hand in going with a 28-30 min Rodman this early. Coming into the draft I thought there was a remote chance that he may fall to the 3rd because I figured half the league was doing salary sorts initially to build their lists for the early rounds, but when this division shaped up like it did and Dh went so far down the salary list for Price, I knew it was now or never. We only use 19,680-19,800 minutes (ot factor), so building a team with $72 million in salary and 25,000 plus minutes is not a good strategy IMO, and if there are elite guys in the $4-5 mill range better grab them when you can.
didnt like what was gonna be left of the pgs when it got to my 3rd so i figured i might as well take one now....price is one of the 3/4 best 3pt shooters in the league plus a top ast% guy

The team structure idea here is 1) a superstar or 2) 2 solid players, then build a team around them with mortal players.

PG & SG are a desert, SF isn't much better. The high level players drop off quickly. PF looks the strongest. May use one as a SF.

and how does any of this make stockton a better pg then magic?

from the player draft order it seem we all think it's not all about your big men in this particular draft. Interesting draft dynamics

431 ast%

my current team design depends on a strong ast mechinism. I really needed John, it makes thing much easier with my design

Magic may be a better all around player and I like to use him, but Stockton is a specialist with a def80 and good FG%. He's a better player for me right now. I really like stockton @ PG & Magic @ SG, that's a strong pairing! Ain't happen here though...

I didn't see Rodman as a 1st or 2nd round pick either. I was curious as to when he would go, I really couldn't place him in my mock draft, it was odd.

Taking Stockton 1st in any other draft would have been fatal, but being as there is no run on big men I may just get away with it. I'm rolling the dice on this one!

Nance was taken to be a SF in this league.

Didn't say that I don't like the Price pick dh, because I do. I've seen teams in OL's win without three's and I'm likely 70/30 heading that way myself right now. At this point I figure my only way to get threes is by considering Rodman a PF. I KNOW I need ast% from pg, and there are plenty of very low usage guys with decent D at that position that offer that (and yea Price is a goldmine there because he gives you both ast% and threes).

I figure the 67% Gilmore is like a really poor man's 66-67 Wilt with less rebounding (but not horrible for the 1980's only) a fraction of the assists and 3/4 of the minutes. Right now in an OL I have the 66-67 Wilt shooting over 71% and averaging close to 29ppg. Gilmore has the same 18.5 usage as that Wilt. With that team I have SG as my only usage position and Wilt is almost always the 2nd or 3rd highest usage guy on the floor for me(along with two guys that are sub-17.5), his FGA/48 is up over 25% from RL after 22 games. Trying to find a way to do the same with Gilmore here, but it will likely land me near the bottom in threes. With enough ast% I know I can hit 122-128 possessions and 92-96 FGA's a game, if I can keep Gilmore as my 2nd or 3rd option then I will hopefully be getting 200-300 extra shots from him, shots that have a 67% chance of going in, which IMO will net me more than a few extra W's.

Rodman: 90D, 58-60 efg, elite and I mean VERY elite orb%, adequate dreb%, virtually nonexistent turnovers. Yea it's only 28-30 mpg, BUT after 10 games or so there will be at least a few teams that are horrible and a few that are just so-so. I'm the kind of guy that may bank Rodman minutes 10-12 games where I think I can win without him,  Then use him 35-40 minutes against the elite teams.

If you play the minute game with a high usage guy (just take a look at what happened to me this week in the PPL playing a 23.5 minute D Wade for 37 min and watching him go 10 for 31) then he will hit the individual penalty and it will backfire. But with Rodman's low usage he likely won't hit the penalty, and even if he does he may miss an extra shot or two, and the penalty does not impact his D or his boards.

If used properly Rodman is a good 2nd rounder in this league, and no way in hell could I have gotten him in the 3rd, oh and he guards both SF and PF at 90, giving added flexibility that is needed in a conference with Bird, Malone, and Barkley.
