Allstate is there, would assume so are the other big players.

I'm sure they are.  They're just not as efficient at giving people their immediate needs.   Red tape.

No no. Talking out of your ***.

temp shelter, food, clothing, all up front.

Red tape happens when you get down to the end, and you start getting into depreciation, total settlement.

These companies' reputation depends on getting people out of their most dire circumstances ASAP.

Then our system is broken because it doesn't work that quickly down here.

Do you have actual experience there, or are you, like I admittedly am, just projecting non-disaster, non-emergency experiences with insurance onto such a scenario?

Your normal everyday claim takes time, yes. This will take time because of the sheer volume, yes.

But catastophes are why we exist, and when our industry takes a load of crap for the things we do...Quite a few times justifiably...this moment is when we typically shine.
The insurance industry will be more efficient than the gov't and as efficient as the Red Cross (except only for their own policy holders).

I have seen Canadian catastophe losses in action. All hands on deck, all provinces.

Yes.  Hurricane so the damage was much more widespread.     They may do a much better job with isolated damage.

1. I don't remember the Idaho hurricane.
2. I don't know the scope of your claim, but if it was say, my roof lost some shingles vs. some losing their whole houses, you're going to be triaged down the list.

Who says I've lived in Idaho my whole life?

Understood about the order of things.  But the funny thing about hurricanes is they don't hit one house.   So, if you have some form of communication with the outside world, you'll hear the horror stories of waiting to see someone.    Take New Orleans for example.  They couldn't even access some areas for a week.   People are standing on their roofs waiting for help.

Yea, that's not insurance, that's search and rescue, and that was a clown show.

Again, can only go with what I know and see, and there should be a lot of claims adjusters there doing the most important up front, and that's to get policy holders sheltered, clothed and fed.
